I have a KA with JGS turbo kit and some other goodies. The thing is Job issues have came up and im alot down on cash so I put my motor up on E-bay. A guy asks if I would be willing to trade for his RB25 still on the pallet from the importer and it comes with a full gasket kit and N1 water pump not installed. Do you gentlemen thing it would be wise to trade him straight up, mind you all my parts are brand new never used except for my motor wich has low miles. I want to do it personally because I figure mounts, driveshaft, clutch, and fmic and my car would be running whereas with the current setup i need injectors, tune, IC, etc. thanks for everyones input.

p.s. what are the differences between the RB25 and RB20 that I could notice right away if I do go down there, just to make sure he doesnt have the timing cover and valve covers swapped.

You had better also remember that you know your own motor. You don't know anything about the motor that is being offered to you (or why the other guy doesn't want it).

I would only buy my motor from a reasonably reputable (by eBay feedback) seller, and they backed it up superbly...even mailed me spare parts later at no expense, and believe me....YOU WILL NEED MORE PARTS than what you think. Downpipe. Sensors. Bad parts to replace. Electric fans. New radiator. Tach. Fuel pump. Fuel pressure regulator. Throw in a Fuel pressure gauge for good measure. Power steering lines (if you need it). is the wiring good AND uncut? Their are lottts of headaches to deal with and that is assuming that you know what you are doing. They turn into migraines when you are confused.

I know the thrill and excitement of having the opportunity to get an RB in your car, but be prepared to shell out extra money and endure atleast a month or two of downtime (mostly waiting for parts, assuming you have the cash to order them as soon as you realize that you need them AND they are sourced quickly).

If you are up to the challenge, have the cash to do it right, and don't need this car ready in two days, then GO FOR IT!!!! check out this video:

^^^ Pretty much Explains it all, There is ALOT of detailed small things that add up to alot on a RB Swap. I think your better off keeping your current setup and Finishing it, In the end it will cost you less and you will prob have close to the same amount of power the RB is going to put down stock.

RBs are not for guys who are in a cash pinch. Unless you don't mind not driving it.

Agreed, I'd have to say aside from exotics, these motors are about the most expensive out there... 2JZ's seem to be cheaper in a good deal of cases....

The good thing aboot what you all said is that I dont even have a shell atm, there is NO rush at all. He had good feedback on E-bay so im driving down with my motor to VA this weekend and checking it out, if it all checks out well then Ill trade him. The pictures he sent me made the motor look pretty clean on the outside but that doesnt mean anything.

You had better be sure to ask about any and ALL parts he has for this swap. You are going to need them!!! If you need a list, you can start by checking my original post (and add in there RB20 ECU...you can't use the KA...derr)..and you can also check the thread called "What is needed for a rb20 swap" above...it's a "sticky" for a reason..lol
