I just recently bought a 1992 240SX FASTBACK SE, and i have a few questions about it. If you can help, then that would be great.

 1. The car idles real badly when the A/C is NOT on. When the A/C is NOT on the needle bounces back and forth from 500RPM to 1000RPM. When the A/C IS on, it idles with no problems at 1000RPM. Can anyone make sense of this?

 2. I have never owned a 240sx before, and i was curious, even though the car is in gear (M/T) does your shifter have alot of play in it, left to right? Mine sure does.

 3. What is the easiest way, to find out if my car has Hicas, super Hicas, or no hicas at all? I got underneath the rear end, and was looking but wasnt for sure what to look for.

Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated:)

ThanksDanny

1. You have a bad idle. This confirms that you definitly have a real 240sx. Do a search and see what you can find

2. Mine did too. I got a new nylon bushing thingy from nissan for like $2.00. Took about 10 minutes to install. Helped a good bit

3. I imagine you would have a steering rack in the back, or a steering box, or something. I would imagine it'd be rather obvious

1. probably a vacuum leak

2. yeah, it does have play. it's anoying. get a b&m short shifter

3. look at the back suspension. is there this ugly box with rods comming out of it that looks like it might be able to turn the rear wheels?

look at the ps pump, thats like a kabillion times easier, or tell me your chassis code, its on the metal tag on the firewall of the passenger side. should say like rhs13 for example

On the idle take a look at the rubber boot on the intake. It is notorious for cracking and that will cause a bad ilde. If so just duct tape it up, because the dealer wants way too much for a new one.

ok i have had the same problems

1. u probably have a bad o2 sensor, i did it was connected by one strand of copper wire and then my dad yanked it out tryin to look at it. get the bosh one, its 30 dollars u can get it at part stores and u dont need to wire it in yourself just plug n ur done

2. replace bushing

3. hicas and super hicas are the samething, kinda like mario bro's and super mario bro's have the same people in them. there should be a little panel underneath your hazard lights with the rear wiper and washer nozzle controls, if there is black button with a red little dot on it about the size of a shirt button that says hicas, congratulations u have super hicas, if that light blinks something is wrong with it. i plan to eliminate my hicas system completey because its not working and i dont like the way it feels. and if u do have super hicas u also have a limited slip so youre allready ahead of alot of people on your upgrade list

oh and by the way, does anyone know if the rear lower control arms are different for hicas equipped vehicles than non hicas?
