well after months of searching and speculationg about my setup, the money is starting to fall in place. i am going to run a)Optima batteryb)Rockford Fosgate 4 gauge wiring kitc)Stinger 1 Farad capd)Hifonics Brutus BX1500D ampe)Orion H2 12" subf)Sealed enclosure made from 1" thick MDF, 16"x16"x12", so inside dimensons of 14"x14"x12". which equals about 1 cubic foot of airspace

total price=around $750 (i already have b) and c) )

My questions1)What battery setup should i use? an optima red top under the hood, or a regular battery under the hood and a yellow top in the trunk?2)Are there any other things besides a new alternator (dont want to do) i should do to beef up my electrical system to accomidate such a high-powered amp?3)Are those box dimensions right? the sub needs 1 cubic foot of airspace..4)does this whole setup seem like a good dollar:bass ratio? any other suggestions? this will be the last setup i run for a while, so i want to make it count...

thanks guys.....

I suggest:

Red top under the hood. - With extra batteries your alternator has double duty. Since the factory alternator is being used, this is the best in the long run.

I would suggest upgrading the ground wire from the battery (-) to the car. This is always a good thing to do. It only takes 2 ring terminals and a short length 4 awg wire. You should be able to see where it touches the body. That spot will do well. You might want to scrape some of the paint away if the new wire has a different contact area than the factory one.

You might want to build your box to be a bit bigger. The sub motor structure takes up about .1 cubic feet. The internal volume should be about 1.15 or so. To arrive at that figure take your 3 dimensions LxWxH and divide by 1728 and that will give you your cubic foot parameter.

Your setup looks good. Good luck, and enjoy your new bottom end.

ya i agree with simm, he knows his stuff... but i'm still not to sure on the whole capacitor idea... need to do some research on caps before someone else goes out and buys one with the wrong intention...

do you guys know what optima battery works for a 92 240sx? on the site it lists that none work, but something from another car has to work. on cbrstereo.com they only list one, do you think this will work for my application? http://www.cbrstereo.com/index...D=727

well i had a cap left over from my last system, and can either use it, or sell it for some extra cash. its that special edition stinger one with the leds and neon ring, so it gives me some extra bling factor. if i dont need it, let me know so i can sell it.

ya i'm not sure if you actually do need it or not... i know that i am going to sell my monster digicap so that i can afford a better battey for my upcoming setup...

but another battery that you should look for is an Orbital Exide battery... apparently they're better than optima for systems, and are cheaper... that's what i'm gonna be gettin

ok i just figured out i want a box size of 16x16x13, with internal dimensions of 14x14x11. it equals 1.247 cubic feet, -.1=1.147. PERFECT!

well all i can tell you about caps is that they have been proven to not actually do very much other than take some stress off your amp, and that cheap caps can actually degrade music quality by feeding dirty power...

so just sell it and maybe look into buyin a line driver with those extra funds

Here's a Technical Answer.

Here's a Consumer/Retail Answer.

Here's some "plain English" - it raises your pre-amp signal 10 to 20 dB, or maybe as much as 10 volts. The increased AC voltage provides better dynamic range and a quieter, noise-free signal to your amplifiers.
