Hi!

I am new here and I have several questions which I hope you guys can answer. Hopefully I posted in the correct section, if not, please move it. =)

I have been contemplating on what to get for my first car. I was really obsessed with the Audi TTS for quite a while.. until I saw the 370Z in real life. *Drools* My dad says I should go for the TTS whereas, my mom says I should go for the 370Z. I agree with my mom since there's a $20K difference and it seems a little over the top for me to drive a TTS for my first car.

So, I wanted to know how reliable are Nissan cars in general. Are there are a lot of problems? Will I have to face a lot of repairs? Will I have to look into a new car in a few years? I am probably going to own this car for a while if I do get it. I don't want it to die in five years or something. I am probably going to wait until the 2010 version of the 370Z comes out so they fix the kinks and stuff. Sorry for such a long read and thanks in advance!!

Hi TL!

A couple thoughts: The Z is plenty reliable.

However, I question the sanity of ANY parent who'd encourage their rookie driver offspring to have a $40K sports car as their FIRST CAR.

Pardon my concern, but have you ever driven something with 300+ hp?

Having driven one of the first 370's on US soil, I can tell you it's a phenomenal car.

But I can also tell you, I've gotta wonder how much your parents REALLY love you, putting you in a RWD sports car in snow country.

No, I haven't driven anything that has 300+ HP. =( Does the 370Z feel really fast?

Well, my parents think it's better to get me something I like so I will end up being really careful on the road. They think it's a waste of money to get me something I don't want then switch over to something I do want.

It doesn't snow much in the area I live in and I probably wouldn't even drive if it does snow. =) Anyway, thanks for your two cents.

You could get a quattro-equipped TT (so you'd have 4-wheel-drive) if that makes you any "safer". But a 370Z will be a more exciting car any day.

Bear in mind that Audi's are not very relaible, it is far more likely to be in the shop than the Z. Check Consumers reports for reliability and you will prefer the Z.

The 370z is definately reliable. Definately find a beater if you get one. I have the Nismo version and completely love it. Just don't let us see you in the news like a lot of other kids with expensive sports cars. It's definately a lot better than the audi.

I drive slower than a grandma would, I doubt I would get into any accidents. Plus, I am basically using it to get around for school and work. Really simple stuff.

Yeah, I thought Nissan would be more reliable when compared to Audi. My dad disagrees, lol. He's only driven European cars so I don't blame him, he's inexperienced. I am going to get the 2010 version once it comes out. Still have to test drive it and see if I can handle it, LOL. This is the only car I am actually interested in as of now. Other cars these days are meh.

Anyway, THANKS EVERYBODY!!!! =)

the z is a nicer ride if you aks me. jap cars are generally easier and less expensive to work on. i also think your parents are a little crazy but hey thats really sweet for you. so go with the z dude, and i wouldnt worry too much about getting the next year model. they test these cars for years before releasing them to the public plus they should take care of any issues that may come up. take care man! good luck!

The only thing really that is wrong with it is that the cooling system would need to replaced (apparently the oil temp can exceed 280F easily, thus causing the factory ECU to go in limp mode) with an aftermarket oil cooler..but that is only if you plan to use it on the track.

I didn't know insurance would be cheaper if you're a girl.. =S LOL! Is this supposed to be a joke? Man, I feel stupid right now, LOL.

I hope they fix that problem. Are there any other problems that you're aware of? *Sigh* I think I am being too picky. I am sure tons of other cars have little problems here and there. But, I can't stand it when my baby is sick. </3

Use it on the track?! Heck no!!! I can't speed even if my life depended on it. Hopefully my future Nissan will be running for a long time.

not a joke, insurance is usually cheaper for females in general. Testosterone mixed with sportscars equals higher insurance premium.

If you have a BF, make sure he does not drive it.

Seriously? Wow, glad I should be getting cheaper insurance. Only if that stuff applies in Canada. Canada can be pretty weird at times..

He's acutally planning to get the 370Z in black pretty soon. I doubt he'll want to play with mine when I get it. =P Besides, I don't want anybody driving my baby around....

No offense to anybody that drives a Miata but I think it looks ugly, lol!! In general, I don't like girly looking cars. I like cars that look aggressive. =D Don't worry, I am gonna slap on some crazy deep dish rims later on and it will be a little slower. Although, I don't think too much.

At least I am not as spoiled as the other kids around here. I know my limit when asking for stuff.

I had a TT. I sold it and bought my brother's Honda Del Sol with 200,000 miles on it, because the Del Sol was more reliable.

I had nothing but problems with my Audi. The engine blew twice in 11,000 miles. The TT's engine is such a huge turd Audi lost a class action lawsuit over it and had to extend everyone's warranty.

I now own a 350Z Nismo and so far so good. And for what it's worth everyone I know likes my 350 more than the TT.

Dang, I was wondering why barely anybody drives Audi.. Now I know why. Thanks so much for the heads up. If I actually ended up buying the TTS, I would be so sad.

To be fair I had the older style TT with the 225hp 1.8liter engine. I hear the new engines are a lot better. I would still expect it to have issues, surely more issues then you would get from a Nissan.

My kind of woman.

Must vehicles have their issues. As for the german or italian counter parts, even being hand built have their own issues. The difference is downtime, availability of parts when your car do break down and price. Nissan wins in this.

Second, if you follow the maintenance schedule to the line, all should be well.

In the past, Nissan has given the world it's own taste of performance. And that spirit still lives in the Z series.

Glad to see you around.
