Hey, I am going to be receiving money soon for graduation, and I am considering buying a 91-94 240sx 5spd. I have a fw questions and I'd figure I'd come to the owners of 240sx's to get answers.

How easy are they to work on? I have a crappy Ford Escort right now, but its easy as hell to work on. Im pretty handy when it comes to cars, but is basic maintenence a hassle or what? Also, if hell freezes over and I have to actually take it to a mechanic, would it be more expensive becuase parts and labor and stuff?

Do they have a good reliability history? I heard the brakes arent that great, but thats an easy fix, is there anything else that usually goes wrong with these cars? I dont want to buy a car if its going to be breaking down a lot. I like to take pretty good care of my cars, will it take care of me in return?

Are they good for traveling distances?

I know the aftermarket response is good so I dont have to worry about that. (Im going to get some sweet euro tail lights and neons with a sweet system........NOT! I hate those people.)

Is there anything else you guys can tell me? Anything would be great, and thank you very very much.

Man, you've come to the right place.

I've had nothing but good experiences with my 240 (before I ****ed up and crashed it)Brakes...may not be *that* good, but for normal day to day driving, they will get you by.They are extremely reliable, and very easy to work on. (First car I worked on alone, and didn't mess anything up. The thing is idiot proof)Aftermarket--click any of the links to the left.;)

first off, im glad you dont plan to hook up neon and altezzas, but whats wrong with a nice system? the weight you actually gain isnt enough for me to notice, and plus its nice to have alot of bass sometimes. but, just my opinion. i have had really good reliabilty with my 92, but i know it was well taken care of before i bought it. just make sure you buy it from someone who has taken care of it for a while. the only item ive replaced besides basic matinence are the brake pads, which i was expecting. they are pretty easy to work on though. .

I'm going to have to warn you....at least the 240's from the area of the country where I bought mine are notorious for old person smell.

i bought mine about a month ago....(crashed my 95 240 2 years ago...)its a 91 fastback 5 speed and i love it! i bought it for 750$ and the only thing i had to fix was the brake master cylinder...other than that, no problems at all....i have 170k i think right now and the engine is just amazing....easy to work with all around! not like those FF where there's no space to work around...this baby has all the space you need! hope this helps

Jeeze guys thanks! I appreciate all the replies. Ill just get an air freshener for that old guy smell. Im pretty sure Im going to try to get a 240sx. It was either that or a Focus ZX3, but the benefits of a 240 make it a no contest decision. Now I have the problem of actually finding a nice 240sx 5spd (91-94) in my area for around 4-5 grand. If you guys have any more input please feel free to post it. Thanks again!

this car is pretty nice. i bought my second one in february, and nothings wrong yet. altough the last owner was a smoker and i guess had a dog cause there were hair everywhere and it smelled like cigarette. i had to vacuume like crazy to get those hairs off. when i took my stock shifter out to put a short throw, there were hairs there too. other than the hair, it was good.

if someone's charging 4-5 grand for an S13, you should punch them. :)

240's are awesome cars. And if you thought the ford was an easy to work on car, this one will probably make that car look like a minefield. RWD engines are much more accessible in my opinion (unless you're changing the thermostat on an SR and don't feel like taking anything else on the engine apart.)

Yes bart. I miss my nice, easy to work on rwd car. This transverse mount business just isn't cutting it anymore.
