ok first off i have a '92 240sx hatch 5-speed base model with 133,000 miles on the ka24de. i recently had a tune up about 2 or 3 weeks ago (new spark plugs and wires and a couple other things i dont remember). everything was pretty much fine until i did a burnout like 2 days ago, and my gas pedal is hard to budge at first but then its fine when your pressing on it. i thought it was something with the pedal mechanism at first but then i popped the hood and manually pushed the throttle cable and same thing.. (hard to budge at first)... so i dunno what happened with that.

second thing: a day after the pedal thing, my engine starts dying on me. like id be coming to a red light and push the clutch pedal and pop it into neutral, and instead of the engine going back to idling it goes really low, like 300-400 rpm and drops even lower and dies (98% of the time it dies). happened to me as i was making a left turn and freakin lost my power steering and crap... before all this, i would normally idle at about 700 rpm.

other problems: exhaust rattling at ~2000 rpm from broken hanger on catalytic converter (im pretty sure). this is probably not related, but im currently figuring out what the hell the owner before me did to the sound system cuz the wiring is all messed up (i took the radio out and am in the process of removing the speakers and crap).

i could also take small video clips of all these things that are wrong if it helps. it would probably be a good idea so it would be easier to see/hear whats up.

if someone could help me out i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks in advance.

Welcome to NICO!!

Try cleaning the throttle body with carb clean or something. Use a soft cloth to wipe it down around the throttle plate and chamber. See if this brings any improvement to the idle quality.

The rattle is likely as you say some sheilding. Get a large worm drive hose clamp and clamp any loose shields down to the exhaust to stop the buzzing/rattling noises from it.

i took a look at the whole throttle body assembly today with my dad, and we fixed it!! all we did was clean up the striker and apparently there was a piece of metal sorta wrapped around it that hits the idle contact point, so we took that off and cleaned it and put it back on. then greased up the whole thing and it works awesome now. it doesnt stick anymore and i have a good idle.

thanks for your help man!

as far as the exhaust rattle... i can live with it until i get a new exhaust when i get an sr20 soon, but thats another story :D

thanks again.
