im hooking up my A/F gauge and i spliced the wire right after the connector coming off the o2 sensor (stock for now) and when i start my car all i get is it lights up the lean really dimmley (they didnt have one with a digital readout) and no matter what the rpms are at it always stays like that i think my o2 sensor is bad but no one has an obd1 scanner around where i am (middle of the sticks really ) but i dont know would that cause that?

hmmm. Hard to tell without looking on it, but doublecheck your wiring against the diagrams you got with the gauge. The dim light makes me think perhaps a poor ground, and the single-reading AF output seems like a wiring error. Suspect yourself first, and a faulty O2 sensor last.

Are you throwing an OBD code?

The O2 sensor doesn't start reading until it reaches approx. 550* F. It will never reach that while sitting in the driveway, revving the engine. You can rev for an hour and you won't get there, because there's no engine load.

Drive it down the road for about 10mins and then tell us what you find.

i had the exact same thing happen to my sr when it was running then i remembered that the signal wire was shielded after my car got wrecked. So double check your splice and solder if its grounded to the shielding.

it did throw a code for it the last time i checked it and i dont see why that would change but like i said no one around here has a obd1 scanner as far as the sheilding on the wire coming off the o2 i did stripp most of it off but i just thought it had to make contact with the wire so i dont know if i have to get it all off but im going to take it apart again today and look at it and yes i did drive it i have an hour and a half drive to work every day so i want it to run right.

well ur wiring shouldnt be like that for the stereo but i think thats another issue. the shielding should b on the wire itself or try wrappin it with the all mighty electrical tape and see what happens.

don't wire an a/f gauge to a stero it will hit with your music rather than your o2 i know that from experience with my friends dsm. if you need an easy source for you 12v try the cig lighter it turns on with the ignition and ground to the battery

well it has 5 wires 2 ground 1 12v constant and 1 12v ignition then the o2 wire, so i should hook the 12v ignition to the cig lighter then the 12v constant i would have to run from the batt or can i leave the 12v con to the stereo and could i just ground it on the chassis?

i dont know where you should put the constant but stay far away from your stereo for either 12v or ground
