so i checked it out on here and found 1 post with similar problems but no answers, so i'm asking for my own sake hoping to find out what the trouble is.

the low down, - its a 1990 240 hatch, 190,000 miles on it - new clutch and short shifter put it @ the beginning of summer.- slave and master replaced last summer

dilema ONLY happens every now and then while i'm on the highway drivin at a near 3400 rpms (speedo doesn't work half the time) and all of a sudden i lose acceleration. it FEELS like i shifted out to neutral but my shifter is still IN 5th gear. the only way i keep resolving it is by shifting out to N and shifting straight back to 5th. Today it happened twice which pushed me to really start looking for answers.

so, any answers?

i noticed you didnt say anything about your flywheel being replaced or resurfaced. maybe you glazed it over from getting on it too soon without proper break-in?

nor really haulin @$$, just drivin highway traffic speed here in San jose. aaaaaaand yup flywheel was resurfaced, and i did easy shifting for quite a few weeks once i got the new clutch kit installed cause since my speedo doesn't work half the time, i have to gauge it by the amount of time i'm on the road

is your ECU throwing any codes?

i had a similar issue when i first got my car on the road, and it would happen while going uphill or just accelerating hard. turns out it was a speed sensor on the trans.

it could be due to a contaminated clutch, like grease or oil on the flywheel...

when the clutch was put in the pilot bearing and input shaft may have been over greased and excess grease could have ended up on the flywheel contaminating the clutch...

test the clamping power of the clutch by driving about 15mph in first and shifting it into 5th or 4th gear and just dropping the clutch, the engine should just die... if not the clutch isnt getting full clamping power and may be contaminated
