Tirerack currently has Potenza RE-01R on some kind of closeout (probably due to the new Potenza RE-11R's coming out in 2009).

The 245/45/18 is listed at $139 each.

BTW, it's the only RE-01R with an >95 load rating .

Wow those didn't last long, only a couple 16 and 17 size left ... nothing Q45-applicable.

Gotta say for twice the money, I think the 100XL rated F1 GS D3 is more than twice the tire.

The Eagle F1 GSD3's are some excellent tires. They came on my 94 when I bought the car in size 255-45-17. The problem was that they were too wide, thus rubbed on part of the suspension when turning the wheel full in either direction.

Had to replace them because they were worn down to the cords. They stuck to the road and felt great, but they were terribly noisy from 20-30 mph; also at $240 a piece on our budget wouldn't work. Substituted for some BFGoodrich Gforce SS a/s tires in 245-45-17. They meet the weight rating, are ZR rated, and about half the price. Good all around tire, but nothing like the Goodyears.

Actually, that is the perfect tire size for a 17" wheel size.

I bet the offset of your wheels was not positive enough.

Very few drive their Q45 hard enough to need twice the tire. Yes, the load rating on the Goodyear's is a higher, but it's not like I posted up a link to Nexxens, Coopers, Hankooks, etc

The Potenza RE-01R's at that price are a great upgrade for anyone not willing to spend the (nearly) necessary $200 each on quality 18 tires.
