my motor is almost completely assembled ( i will make a build thread if anyone is interested) anyways so i go to put the timing belt on tonight. i align the dots on the cam gears to the makings on the back cam gear cover and i align the crank sprocket or whatever you call it to the notch on the Oil pump. i put the belt on using the lines on the belt to align with the dots on the cam gears and sprocket. my question is, the lines on the belt should not always match the dots on the gears and sprocket everytime i rotate the motor to TDC correct?

what method did you guys use to stop the motor from turning while trying to torque down the crank pulley bolt while its on the engine stand? funny thing was i was browsing through the FSM and i saw that the RB26 crank pulley bolt is suppose to be torque down in the neighborhood of 445 newton metters . i thought i was in the RB25 section and i was like "HOLY ****" and then i notice i was in the wrong section and went to the right section and was relieved that it was only 150 or so newton meters. is that misprint in the FSM for the RB26?

Put the transmission in 5th gear and torque it to the 150 N-m number. There's no way you could torque it to 440 N-m without a serious breaker bar and a screwdriver jammed in the flywheel teeth.

And no the lines on the belt will not line up with the dots every time around. But, the dots on the cam gears and crank sprocket should line up every time. If not, then you skipped a tooth on the timing belt.

so i guess ill have to wait till the motor is in the car before i can torque the pulley bolt. i also have to figure out the transmission problem im having. when i got the motor, when the car is in every gear the shifter moves side to side like its in neutral in every gear. i took the shifter out and there isnt a nylon cap at the very bottom of the shifter which is what i thought was suppose to be there. could that be the problem with the transmission? im really hoping i dont have to rebuild this transmission at the moment. i hope i can just order that nylon cap or whatever it is or order a short shifter and fix my problem

So you are saying that your transmission doesn't have a white plastic bushing where the shifter sits? The hole where the shifter sits should have a large white bushing that you CAN'T miss. If it's not there, I am not sure what bushing is compatible with it but I thought I remembered hearing KA a long time ago??
