Hello Everyone!

I'm new here. I got my license recently and started driving around a 1996 Infiniti I30. Unfortunately the car is not in mint condition and will need some fixing. First thing that irritates me is the alarm... It all works, lights flash etc. but the siren is silent. Any way to fix that?? I heard that it's possible to turn it back on with the remote control but have no idea how to do it.

Transmission is leaking oil when parked uphill. Normally it's fine and shifts very nicely (5-speed manual). I've replaced the gaskets between the transmission and the engine, but it still leaks every now and then. What can be wrong with it then?? It's possible that the previous owner drove with little oil in the transmission... What damage could that possibly cause??

Third issue is the exhaust system... It's getting pretty rusty and I want to replace it, but not with a stock one but a custom one. I want to weld something together myself. If I do that, is the car going to pass inspection if I decide to put the catalytic converter somewhere in the installation?? Will it pass the inspection without it?? I'm from New Jersey.

Lastly, the knock sensor. It shows up as one of the codes. Seems like it may be busted. Is it possible though that it's not busted but it lights up just because of some short circuit or other??

Thanks,Jake

Are you talking about the siren being silent when the alarm goes off, or when arming the alarm?

Best bet is to climb under neath and find where it's coming from. Could be axle seals or something else. Driving with low fluid could damage the gears.

As long as there is a catalytic converter, it should pass an inspection. No way it will pass without one.

It's most likely the knock sensor is bad. It's a common problem. Directions on how to replace it can be found in the FAQ/How-to sticky at the top of the forum, second post.

In the future, please to not make repetative threads.
