Post

Just to preface this, I have been searching and have not come up with the exact answers that i need. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and answer.

Fan questions:

Can i remove the stock fan without rewiring in a 98 240sx and expect it not to overheat?

If i need to rewire the stock electric fan, does anyone have a common 12v/temperature based relay setup that they could point me to?

For anyone living in the south, have you done the fan removal and wiring or just the fan removal? Any summetime woes?

When the rewire is complete, will the fan stay on contiually while the ign is on? Or does it kick in and out as needed?

Header Questions:

When replacing the header and cat on an OBDII vehicle (98 240sx), does the secondary O2 sensor need a mount placed in the catback section past the new cat (and the wires extended)? - this is detailed in the hotshot additional docs on their website, just wondering if it applied.

Has anyone with OBDII done a header setup yet and reported no problems with engine lights and such?

Any suggestions for a header manufacturer or dealer? I have looked at bothe the hotshot and the obx already, both seem to be of good quality.

For the fan questions go to the installs link on 240sx.org homepage.

As for the header. I have one on my 98 and they have a hole for the 2nd o2 sensor. I still get check engine codes but if the light bothers you just take out the bulb. I have the hotshot header and I like it but I have recently noticed it is starting to rust around the welds on the flange. There is a post about comparisons between it and the obx in one of the forums. search for it.....its fairly new.

Yeah, i saw that post earlier. I am thinking about the OBX one now. As far as the fan faq on 240sx.org goes, I have read it, it doesn't address the questions that i have asked.

hey I have the hotshot header (newset gen) on my 96, you will definitley like it performance wise - however it will definitley throw a CEL, I even have relocated the 2nd O2 sensor to behind the 2nd cat with the bung hotshot provides (mine wasn't a dummy cat) and plugged the original hole in w/ the plug form Hotshot even though it still throws a CEL... i just reset my ECU to pass emissions (even though OBDII is supposed to prevent the eCU being reset, reason being that it will not have enough data to "pass" the emission tester's computer immediately after it was reset, but I passed w/ flying colors) I really don't mind driving it everyday - it looks great haven't noticed any rusting however paired with my HKS Drager exhaust it makes the sound in the ****pit considreately louder.

PS the bung, wires of O2 sensor extension, and plug for the old O2 sensor can be obtained form hotshot for $15, I suggest you get it along w/ your headers.

LiU - Thanks a ton for the info. Sorry to hear that you have a CEL that you can't get rid of. Have you made sure it was not something else happening that was thowing the CEL at you? I didn't know that hotshot offered a relocation kit for the second 02 sensor. I will definately get taht with the header now.

I too am interested to hear about methodchris' install since he doesn't have a CEL happening on his car and he is obdII. Speak up man.... And thanks for your post also.

They have some old shells, a couple of good parts cars, but mostly they have some decent ones for sale.
