Ok I have read EVERY thing I could get my hands on such as Almost every TSB that pertains to the G50, The 1993 Service manual I have skimmed the 1991 to see the differences too, Almost all of the old posts that were useful in the IOM, Infiniti general and Q45 sections, and a bunch of Q45techs posts and I know I forgetting some I bet. Having said that i am really scared and a bit overwhelmed about owning a Q45.

But to keep the car running you can do less but you won't be going to 300,000 miles with out following all the above information.

But if Wes can do it I think I can.

And also I would like to say I am going to do some suspension mods like a FGY33 rear shock tower bar and what ever else that I deem worth doing but I am glad I have traction control as a backup driver, But I must say that system makes you less of a driver.

And anyone who wants to learn all they can about the G50 let me know and I will send some of Q45techs posts.

Paul............Scared?........its only a car. Keep putting money in it like me until evrything is new! Then you wont be scared any more!

On a serious note it does not make much sense to pour money into a car that is worth nothing.......but people do it all the time which does not make much sense.

Because of the complexity of todays car your better off buying a 1955 -57 chevy and putting money in those as they just go up in value and are simple and cheap to work on...

Yep, and ride and brake horribly on their pickup style suspensions, rust out from under you and forget crash protection. Just need to find a geezer trying to relive his youth and i willing to overpay for it. Dropping in a large crate motor the chassis can't handle will get you extra bucks when you sell it as a muscle car, and about 8 mpg until then.

We are so much luckier today. Much better cars are affordably available, although most of the stuff this century is becoming short term junk like the 50s American cars.

Well as you know Jeff Williams (The father of the front shock tower bar) made them for us from Nissan Maxima bars, Well Wes told me that all FGY33's had a rear shock tower bar. So I thought I would give it a try and see if it clears the tank.

G50 rear shock towers:

FGY33 rear shock towers"

I just bought the bar from Andy so i will let you guys know next week, i just hope I did'nt waste my money.

the 90s is the money spot for cars right now.. as far as complex enough that they still offer many of the same technological advantages of cars of late but still simple enough that theyre not too expensive or hard to modify.

The Q45 is deceivingly complicated. By that, I mean its actually very simple and logical. It was a great car for me to learn on.

The only problem is that everything is a bit crammed. Oh well, stock up on band-aids.

I just want to add, I have had the 1993 Q45 for a little more than a year. I am fairly happy with it I mean I have my good days and bad ones like everyone else.

But I think some take the Q45 for granted. Others don't know enough about the Q to be worried about it.

But I am at the point where I know so much about the Q and I constantly worrying about it. I remember when I first got my 1991 Q45 and I just drove it without much concern. And that was because I didn't know much about cars. But the fact that it needed at least 5K to bring back to mechanical standards didn't help either. Now I have a once perfect idling 1993 Q45 and I am very happy with it (I call it my "Second chance").

But "Ignorance is bliss" and Dennis AKA Q45Tech is ALWAYS RIGHT! , When it comes to the Q45 and NICO.

Just had to post the above because its been on my mind for some time. And to add to the fact that my parents and friends think I am insane. But from what I heard that's pretty much the norm for Q45 educated people.

This should serve as a warning to others interested in a car never mind a Q45.

I spent 4 hours cutting, deswirling, polishing, then waxing the new to me 1990 hood. $95 worth of professional products most from 3M.Acid rain and coal fired power plants.

With all the rubber in rear suspension, subframe, diff, etc I'm not sure a rear shock tower bar [over and above the ladderframe to protect the gas tank] will be feelable. Guess it will depend on rear sway bar stiffness............why the Cima has one, due to having a decent rear sway bar.

Maybe you need to move up to the FGY33 Q45 where the money that you put into the car actually increases the interest factor(adds some wow) rather than the other way where people think that you are crazy. That is what I did.

Or get that 55 Chevy. I bought my 97 q45 from a guy that also had a cool 57 Chevy Bel Air and I was thinking about buying that from him too cause it is easy to work on and looks awesome! The original Q45 is in a weird spot right now for car enthusiast. Could that be why you are worried?

But I don't consider a revised and redesigned 94-96 Q a Q, and worse is the 97-01 Q41 CIMA and worse yet is the 02 Q45 CIMA.

Each to his own. I could care less what others think about my cars as they is my cars.

I'm looking forward to owning one of the last few running Q45's on earth.

It will share space with the 99 AMG C43 which is down to less than 1,000 registered running units in US. Boy those rich kids wrecked them right and left.It will also share space with a 2009 GM 1500 truck......thanks Obama.

The 20 year old Q gets better MPG than any of the above others.

Then you must like the original look of the Q. Here in California you are what you drive. It may be sad but true. With California being the biggest market for cars in the US I guess that goes with the territory.Funny you mentioned the Cima cause I was thinking of buying a Cima nameplate for my car. I already have the Cima hood ornament and now I am looking for the grill.

You are what you drive and where you stay [live], is what got the US in the economic problem to begin with. Maybe retribution will happen over the next 10 years and California can be excommunicated from US. Traded to China for some of our debt.

I have seen most of the parks and lived in El Monte/Southgate/Compton during the week in the early 90's.

Dude, dont buy into the hype. Let other people make their $500/month payments while you enjoy your Q. Dennis is right that "keeping up appearances" played a major role in this economic crisis. People living way beyond their means with only their credit holding them up.

So you take care of you and screw what others think.

C'mon Tech - we all know you're a sharp guy. How much do you HONESTLY think we could get for California? Cost us more to ship it than it's worth...

Wow. It sure doesn't take very long for a "Q45 thoughts" thread to degenerate into a "Bash California" thread. The idea that California is the only area in the U.S. where people live beyond their means seems a bit inaccurate.

Trading California to China? If your home state has Walmart stores in it, then China has a direct $$$ pipeline to and from your home state. China says "Thank You Come Again".
