1. I tried to replace my gear oil today to no avail. On the transmission, is the bolt to drain the oil the one in the middle of the transmission, near the rear with a square indentation? If so what is the name of the wrench, or attachment needed to be used.?

2. Is there any method to removing the two metal rings that are inside the shifter assembly...They are a B*TCH to get out and I couldn't get them. I didn't want to keep grabbing at them with the needle-nose plyers because I was scraping them up, and I don't want to damage them.

3. Occasionally (maybe 20-25% of the time) when I shift there is a "clunking" noise that comes from the rear. I don't know exactly what I was looking for, but all of the mounts seemed fine, all the bolts and everything was tight, nothing loose at all. The only thing that fidgeted at all was the driveshaft which I could wiggle back and forth, but I assume that there is a tiny bit of play since it does nothing but turn...

Any help/info would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, its a 96 base model with 105k.

1. I'm almost 100% sure that is the bolt. It was a while back when I did mine tho.

2. A little confused by what part of the transmission you're talking about here. *EDIT* My memory is terrible. I only remember things by visualization, and I have troubles with names.

3. Syncros is all I could think of here. Maybe check em out.

1. Yes that's it, at least on a 90 240sx all you need is a 1/2" drive ratchet with an extension. Stick it in there and crank away to get the plug out. You'll have to tug hard to get it out, so make sure you are loosening it.3. I think you have a bad universal joint in the driveshaft. There should be no play at all in any of the universal joints on that shaft, there should be a teeny bit of play from the rearend, and a bit from the inside of the transmission, but none in the u-joints. Isolate the offendind joint and replace it.
