Most automotive remotes -Infiniti's are- work by radio, not infra-red. Mercedes uses IR, but I don't know who else does.

There's no certain solution to getting better range from the remote. I don't know what happened with mine, but it has a range of about 150 feet, or more~ by far the longest range of any car remote I've ever used. Luck of the draw. Talking to radio people about making better antennas seldom gets you an understandable answer, but just know that antennas have to be tuned.

J30 remotes only work the door locks, trunk lock and interior lights. The trunk lock has to be held for about a second and a half before it'll open- the reasoning behind this is the slim possibility of two different cars having the same code for the doors and the trunk, and why the doors re-lock after a minute or so if you don't open them- if someone else unlocks your car with their remote while unlocking their own, the car will re-lock and remain secure. The trunk lifts off the lock and will stay open, so the delay is meant to reduce the chance of it catching a stray or false signal and opening.

I'd not heard of Js beeping their horn with the remote, only flashing the signals twice on locking, and turning on the interior light when unlocking. Far too cultured to be making honks and quacks like a disturbed duck. Or, a GM product. However, my '97 Owner's Manual promises the remote will work the windows (and the press release said it has a Homelink). They lied.

I didn't want to think that unlocking the trunk would unlock the doors as well, But I suppose its to disable the alarm. Now the way I am setting it up I doubt I would have to worry about that, After all 12 car alarms are far more simple than I thought. (I always things are impossibly hard then I am surprised by how easy they really are). I plan on running two wires for the door and trunk unlock. One will send a door unlock signal to the door unlock signal pin on the Anti-Theft Control Unit and the other wire will also be to send a trunk unlock signal to the correct pin on the Anti-Theft Control Unit. Hopefully that will make sure the doors are not unlocked, Because the J30 Anti-Theft Control Unit has THREE unlock signal pins from which they can receive signals VS the 1990-1993 Q45's two. The third on the J30 is for the keyless entry unlock signal that is used for both the doors and trunk. But I was hoping Nissan made a mistake when they were typing the service manual up, They seem to make them a lot.

The J30 owners manual is shared with the Q45's and the Q45 uses a true Body Control Module that controls every interior electrical switch function. The J30 does not have this so the windows will not go down when the keyless entry unlock button is held down for 1.5 seconds or more. I do like the fact that the Infiniti J30 choose not to have the horn honk but instead use the lights to confirm actions. It makes it more conspicuous. Plus every car honks today when the alarm is engages its almost annoying.

Apologies if there was confusion: the J remote has four buttons- the big half-circle lock button, driver's door unlock on the left below it (press twice to unlock all doors), the trunk button on the right of that, and below it a button that just turns on the interior lights. Unlocking the trunk doesn't unlock the doors. The "panic" function is worked by holding down the lock button, although I've never understood why anyone would want to make their car panic. Jeeze, like just driving them the way we do isn't torture enough.

Ive owned 6 infinitis over the years (4 G20s, 2 J30s) and none of mine have ever honked unless the car is locked and someone opens a door/trunk/hood without unlocking it first, or i hold down lock button on the remote and it panics. My hazards flash when i press the lock button twice on my current J30, one press locks, second press flashes. All other infinitis ive owned flash and lock with one press. I tried holding down the 2 buttons like Paul Wall wanted, it did nothing. The only time the trunk wont open with my remote is when its either running, or ive turned the trunk release switch in the glovebox to off (valet). The only infinitis ive ever seen that are not capable of using a keyless remote without adding a module are G20s that dont have the leather package. (Leather package gives Leather, Power Seats, Sunroof, Keyless). A buddy of mine had an 02 G20 Sport that honked when locked with the remote, but the remote type was different. Ive never seen any infiniti or nissan with a cool window up/down by remote or key feature from the factory. My bmws had it tho. Maybe the newer models do?
