I just bought my 92 s13 hatch (for a great deal, BTW :D ) but there are a couple things that need attention:

1) My speedometer is broken.. The needle stays on the other end and sometimes goes up, sometimes stays down:

2) My pop-up headlights are having trouble- they both go up and light up fine, but my passenger side headlight won't go down.

Are there any ways I can fix these problems before I go out and buy replacement parts?

Also, I noticed something today--after I turned off the car, I heard a bubling/boiling sound from the front passenger side. When I opened the hood I realized that it was coming from the coolant reservoir?? What does this mean?? Do I need a new thermostat maybe? ...

Your Help Is Greatly Appreciated:D

Thanks

For the speedo, you may have to take out the gauge cluster and move the speedo back to zero. My S14 front clip came with the speedo in the same position in the JDM cluster and I opened it up, pushed it back to where it suppose to be (it'll flip by itself at a certain point) and it works just fine. As for the headlights, the relay is mostly the culprit. For the bubbling yeah, you need a new thermostat and check the front of your radiator to see if it's gunked up, take off the top two radiator support, push the radiator towards the engine and look at the front of the radiator. The front gunking up is common on all 240's, mine had a thick layer of insects, dirt, dust, and 3 dead birds. Before I cleaned it, my resevoir would bubble up too, even after I changed the thermostat. Hope some of this helps.

I have the exact problem as lady in red. Let me further say what it does though. I will be going down a road at say 40 or 45 and it will read 40 or 45 than all of a sudden it will go all the way and read 90 mph and go back down to say 25mph than back to 0. In other words, it just sits there a bounces up and down and flucuates up and down. Can you go a little more into detail on how to go about fixing this problem silvia 007? I searched and was directed to this post from that dead forum. Thanks in advance.

You can always put your headlights up and down manually

jza80king - my friend had the exact same problem, the culprit was a bad speed sensor, head to a local junk yard and rip one out or if all else fails, you're gonna have to find one at a dealership.

stfuad - yep, you heard right, that area is so enclosed, I have no idea how in the heck all that stuff got there, I guess after 11 years on the road, she picks up a few things along the way.
