Infiniti has been making absolutely brilliant sedans and coupes but they are missing out on the "hot hatch" niche that lots of people (including myself) would love to buy if done proper. Lexus recently went into that niche with a hot hatch but quite honestly, it wasn't all that hot and so it didn't catch on.
If Infiniti did this right, I truly believe they could gain a whole new group of loyal fans and that could only help with brand presence, resale of other models, etc.

Case in point (not sure this is available in the states yet). Enter the Audi RS3:

Mind you, it doesn't have to be full beans ON like the Audi but something reasonably close would be better than any other hot hatch available in the states.

The 7 series is actually called a 'sport back sedan' and it is has always been my fav model. To me, it's what the Merc CLS would be when it grows up, LOL. In 2017 there will be an A9 Prologue - a coupe with no pillars between the windows and it makes my nips hard, LOL. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVZdqZapZhc
A hot hatch must be a near compact-sized car with a powerful engine, 4 or 5 doors, and modified to near-track style handling but not too stiff. The Golf GTI is credited with starting the hot hatch segment.

Larz,

have you seen the Infiniti concept for a new small SUV/hatch/crossover?

http://www.infinitiusa.com/now/future-v ... .240189298

supposed to be based on the Mercedes CLA platform...coming sometime in the near future?

prolly not even close to the power that the Audi has, unless they make an IPL version, but I like the styling better than the Audi - it looks to much like a mini station wagon.

+1. This was one of my choices for my next car, I was in love with it but I just hate the rear. It looks like something is missing. I'm 50/50 on getting it.

I don't like that A9. It looks like it belongs to Cadillac. The turn signal is awesome!! Who will be the first with that mod lol.

Anyway, infinite simply is not that creative or forward thinking to create anything like the A7...or even the speculative A9. I could do without the A3...just my taste.

Craig,
Yes I have seen that and I truly hope they decide to actually put it into production without drastically changing it. That would put all other mini SUVs in their place. Nothing else looks like this - and that is where Infiniti needs to go with every model. Infiniti is too young to have decades of racing history or generations of pedigree like Merc's, Audi's, or BM's. But Infiniti can make it's own mark with a combination of cutting edge styling, reliability, and performance that nobody else offers. When cars like this hit the road, other drivers will know immediately that it's an Infiniti long before they get close enough to read the badge. This can be the way that Infiniti finally grabs its rightful share of the market.

Yes,yes, and yes on the A9!! Love it! Audi makes beautiful cars that aren't overdone. Classy and refined...

I know they call the A7 a "sport back" but if it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck... Haha!!
