Hey Guys-

Back again......I do love this car and can't complain too much as she has not asked for a dime in 4 years, but now is a different story.

So the A/C will not shut off! I have digital controls in the cabin, they are off, OFF. Plus it is early March in WI and there is NO need for A/C right now.

Back ground:
When I got this car it was in rough shape, and well most you would say, she is still in rough shape if I did a rundown of all the stuff that is wrong etc.

When I got the car the A/C would only blow cold when the defrost setting was used. This is still the case.

That being said:

Lately the A/C will not stop running. The car can barely start and will die at stops or when put in gear shortly after it has been started. Once it has been warmed up a bit, it gets better but still runs bad.

I pulled the A/C fuse a day or so ago, and it starts like it used to and no drivability issues.

I am moving to AZ so it would great if my fix was not to pull the fuse.

Thanks for the help!

Nick

Pulled the AC fuse or the AC fuseable link in the engine bay? If it's the fuseable link (basically a relay) then that may be bad. If it's just a fuse then you may have to do the painful auto-climate-control diagnostics.

I'm not positive, but I'm thinking there's an issue with the control circuit

I would run through the CC diagnostics, just to be sure. Diagnostic procedures can be found here.

Good luck. You'll need it. If there's one thing I definitely do not understand about these cars, it's the Auto Climate Control system.

I should clarify what it is I want help with.

I will def. go through the CC diagnostic and thanks for the link!

Do I care that the A/C only works on defrost? No not really.

What I do car about is that the CC unit is off and yet my a/c compressor, condenser etc are running with out cause

Perhaps I should just check the relay, as that might be bad.

Thanks Guys

Sounds to me like a stuck relay, especially since the car is stalling. The idle is supposed to be kicked up when the AC kicks on. If it is engaged all the time, even when off, then the idle won't be increased. That would give the symptoms you mentioned.

Here's a link from the FSM. If you follow back from the compressor, it will lead into the AC relay.

What if the IACV is clogged or junk? that is the device that would kick up the idle too right?
I ask this only becasue I am having the same problems I was ahving with a working A/C but the A/C fuse is still pulled so what do you guys think?

Is there a really good way to clean this out vs. buying a new one for over $300? Thanks
