When converting r12 to r134a it is nec. to add .3 -.5 of a lb. less in r134a do to the fact it is denser than r12 and the r12 condenser is smaller in volume. Over charging can cause this problem also. There is a thermal switch on the compressor that is brass and if this is faulty it will cut the ground curcuit to the comp. clutch. This can be bypassed by running a grd. wire to the wire on the thermal switch that comes from the clutch. By doing this you will cancel your comp. thermal protection which shuts the comp. off if oil is low or comp. gets to hot. With gauges on the system you should read around 18-28 on the low side and about 200-275 on the high side at 2000 rpm.
