What does the econ button do for the a/c? I'm assuming it uses less from the engine to run a/c ? Anyone know for sure?

When the AC is in "econ" mode, the compressor is off.

That is a great question (even checked the owners manual). On my I30 the econ does run without the a/c compressor, but I am pretty sure on the G35's (at least the 04's) the compressor runs. The air is cold. The only thing I have noticed is that the econ mode pulls air from outside and the auto mode recirrulates it. I would think you would save gas with the air recirrulating. Maybe they changed it on the 05s and up...makes more sense to me. Even my 86 300zx had this econ mode and the a/c compressor didn't run with econ on. With the auto on it tried to put out cold air, but had some issues.

from what i can figure out...in Econ mode the a/c compressor runs less frequently...but it does still run. the compressor running less frequently might save a penny or two worth of gas ...
