I bought the car and the a/c was slightly cold in the winter but now that its summer there is no cold air at all. I bought the r12 adapter for the r132 can at autozone but for some reason its not charging the system. Am i doing something wrong or do i got buy some special part or take it to a shop?

pretty sure you have to take it to a shop and have them suck all the old r12 out and flush the system before you dump the new r134 or whatever it is in, along with other stuff that i can't name. you can't just mix them.

1) your system might not be up to operating condition the compressor or clutch, also the expansion valve may be bad causing the pressure to build up on one side and not release or not build at all thereby causing your ac to not cool.
2) You must pull vacuum on the system before charging it to get all the moisture out otherwise you will end up with bad seals in the system within a few months, moisture in an ac system will cause black death, black death requires most if not all of the system to be replaced.
3) do not go off the gauge that comes with the autozone kit, ac systems are charged either by weight or by pressure but from both sides of the system. filling the low side with a AZ bottle and gauge until it shows good readings may under/overcharge the system causing your ac to operate badly or not at all.

Overall its not a difficult thing to do even in the driveway, all you need is a vacuum pump and ac manifold gauge set but if you don't know what you are doing either find a how to on it or take it somewhere if you're scared of screwing something up.
