My cars A/C is not working worth s*it. The air that comes out of the vents is warmer than it is outside. so what should I do? buy a $40 recharge kit and do it myslef? or take it in to get done. I dont know if it has any leaks or not and ya. what should I do to get this going again?

And it time to chage the oil as well. What oil/ filter combo should I use? And at the same time what about the transmission fluid. Its a 4th gen with the 5spd.. Thanks everyone!!

Redline MT-90 is a quality GL-4 fluid. Amsoil Series 2000 SAE 75W-90 Synthetic is another popular choice. The important part is to only use GL-4 for Maxima's. As for the oil I use valvoline synpower full synthetic with a K&N filter. The AC I have no idea I tried on of the diy kits but couldn't figure out where to put it in. All the places I tried to attach it the gauge read full so IDK about that.

I bought the A/C kit today and it worked great! My gauge read 24 PSI..or full when i hooked it up but A/C still didnt work worth crap. So I Hooked up the new bottle anyway and now its a 36 and works so so well! I have to turn the temp up becasue its to cold. if you want to try again johnnyd6404 then I could pretty much walk you through it. its really easy!! easier than putting the car in gear! ha ha

Your low side compressor PSI should be about 30

I think your high side should be about 255-290. My wifes 98 runsat 30 LS and 255 HS and her AC is fine.

These readings are for 50-70% humidity at about 95 degrees ambient(outside temps)

You are in the ballpark but you need to watch your system for leaks.

Was your compressor "short cycling" (cutting on and off)? Generallythat is a classic case of needing R134A but it could mean an overchargetoo.

Listen to your compressor. If it makes a lot of noise you might needto put in some oil to prevent it from siezing up.

If it acts up again/leaks out, check your pressures with a manifold gauge anduse some R134A which has some dye to look for leaks along with ablack light.

The info is in the FSM

For oil i use royal purple in everything, and haven yet to have any problems. Just don't use any fram filters, they suck.
