A/C question/delima?

ive got 2 A/C systems (compressors/brakets) i can use on my black top SR, ones is the original one off my motor, the other off my friends red top, my question is, which should i use? the blk top compressor is smaller, but its the original one, and im all about the blacktop, but does the bigger redtop one work better cause its bigger? and both of the lil connector things are different from each other and different from the stock KA connector.

and off the subject, but how do i know what year my black top is? if its on e of the older ones or the newer ones?
