I just bought a 1990 240sx. It has 110 k on it. It runs fine but I have noticed that the fan in front of the radiator has its wires cut. I borrowed a Chiltons repair manual from the library. I think its the condensor fan.I looked and noticed that a fuse was missing in the drivers sidekick panel. I tested it and there isnt current of anykind coming through the cut wires. I know that the fan is bad because I direct connected it to the battery and it didnt run.Im not sure where to go from here.

The fan has two connectors. One supplies power and the other goes to a thermo switch in the lower radiator hose. The one for the thermo switch is more squarish. The power one only receives power when the a/c is on. The fan will only run when it is getting power and the thermo swich is closing the circuit.

there are three pairs of wires that are cut they are black and blue. there is a pair coming from right behind the fan motor. the other two pairs are wired to connecters that are seated on two brackets. the brackets are mounted on opposite sides of the fan cage assembly thingy. do they all connect or how does this work?

There are only two pairs of wires. The wires coming straight out of the fan should be connected to one of the connectors.

Both connectors should have wires going in to the fan.

My neighboor helped me connect the wires. The fan doesnt run but it has current when i have the ac button on. when we hooked it up we tried it and the ac buttons light went off. I checked the fuses and they were ok except i dont know how to check the box on the drivers side of the car.Its right by the air filter.

It won't run until the thermo switch gets hot enough. This is by design. You can test it by disconnecting the more squarish connector on the front side of the fan and shorting the pins together with something metal. With the pins shorted, the fan should come on when you turn on the a/c.
