Got my Altima coupe yesterday, did not purchase with the technology package since I allready had a portable GPS unit (nuvi660). I'm having trouble finding a good spot to mount the GPS unit.

Mounting to the windshield down low puts it way too far foward for me to reach. (i'm only 5'5).

Mounted up high on the windshield near the rear view mirror looks very odd and kinda gets in the way of the rearview mirror.

Mounting up high on the top left corner of the windshield is a problem because then I have the power cord (with traffic antenna) dangling across everything since i am using the charger in the dash area storage compartment.

GPS can not be permanantly mounted as I have two cars and need to bring the unit back and fourth between them.

I currently have the GPS just sitting in the previously mentioned storage compartment, however this is dangerous as I have to look down to view if needed. I prefer to see the maps and listen to the radio, then listen to a voice shouting directions at me.

I'm open to any suggestions, i'm even considering glueing a mounting plate someplace on the dash, however as you may have noticed there is not a single flat surface on the entire dash to mount to.

Idea? Photos? help????

I have a gps in my car as well. I didnt want the coed dangling across the dash so I put mine in the lower right hand corner. The power cord wasnt long enough to reach and exsisting acc. outlit so I went to radio shack and bought one for like $10. I wired this up underneth the dash and ran the wire for the dps down the rubber next to the dash and up under to plug it in.

Hey Thanks for the input, are you driving a japanees model? here in america the steering wheel is on the left side of the car. how in the world could you reach a GPS system on the lower right side of the windshield? (ie passenger side)

i guess it depend on your gps. my gps was with voice guidance and voicecommands so i dont really need to look at it that much. i place mine at the center part at the console box below the a/c controls.

I push back the cover that blocks the sun from coming in through the sunroof... and attach the suction cup to the sunroof class. Puts the gps right at my eye level and the power cord is not in my way.

I thought this was a pretty good idea.... However since i'm only 5'5 my driving position is too close, and the GPS would be basically above my head instead of infront of my vision. I would have to lean back to see the GPS screen. Right now I have it mounted just to the left of the rear view mirror, not a bad position, just annoying to have the cord hanging down.

I ran into the same issue as you. The best way I could find to resolve the issue was to buy the Garmin friction mount and put it just to the left of the 1st round vent (closest to the driver.) This has worked perfectly well and has never slipped from the dash. I even had the cord routed through the ventilation system to poke out of the vent it sits next to. The friction mount is about $30 and should be available pretty much where ever you can buy Garmin products.

My fault, I meant lower left hand side.
