Hey guys
I am new to the site and from what i have read have found some things very interesting. However I have a question that i cant seem to find an answer too. I have 2003 Q45. I have recently moved from a smaller city with flowing traffic to a larger city with gridlock traffic. Since this move i have been experiencing an issue with my Q overheating when sitting in traffic. When the vehicle is at constant move or gas is given there doesnt seem to be a problem, but when sitting at lights, or traffic it will begin to oveheat. Last october i had the radiator replaced and thermostat replaced does anyone know what the problem may be? Also.. when i hit the climate control in the car it also refuses to work suggestions on this would be nice also..

You should repost your question in this area:

NICO has arguably as much Q45-related knowledge as the engineers themselves. Dead serious.

Also, see if your fan is functioning.

Did those have a clutch fan? If so, I'm betting that's the problem. My 90 240 did the same thing. Replaced water pump, thermostat and flushed rad. Still overheated when not moving.

Swapped clutch fan, problem solved.

Well, that only works if you have a clutch fan. If you have remote electrical fans, check to make sure those are working too.

The fact that your temps drop as long as your moving and getting air flowing over the fins of the rad means that you know the thermo and water pump are working. If either of those two were not working, water would be flowing through the rad so you'd be heating up a bit even if moving.

You said the radiator was replaced... was it by chance some cheapo aftermarket unit?

+1 for checking your fans. They should turn on as soon as you turn on your air conditioning, so that's something you can test quickly, in your driveway.

It was not inexpensive, but i do not know the quality of the radiator!! will look into it. However the Air condition or my heating controls will not turn on when i press the button.

You meant the cabin fan doesn't blow when you turn it on? That's an entirely different issue. What sort of project car did you buy?

Cabin fan, A/C, Heat, nothing. When hitting the climate control button nothing occurs. Take in account all of my reading are on a 7inch screen such as; radio controls, navigation, reverse camera, and anything else that occurs with the car such as tire pressure, oil changes, mileage, and so on... when hitting climate controls nothing appears on the screen. LOL project car is right.... Needed a vehicle quickly and purchased this Q45 2003 for a great price.. from the dealership i normally get my cars from... and because i needed immideate transportation. Knowing what i thought i knew i didnt think i would encounter the problems that ive encountered. other than the car overheating when sitting in grid lock traffic and this a/c problem which normally would not have bothered me but its been so hot........ the vehicle is actully decent. or maybe im just trying to convience myself that!!!!!
