So I've purchased the BC racing coilovers from a friend during my spring break & i shipped them to my house & they arrived last wednesday. Obviously like a child with i new toy i couldnt wait to get them installed. Saturday morning came & I had my friend come over & we jacked the car up & put them bad boys in. Took the car for a light spin & she drove wonderfully! i loved every second of it & was super excited to lower her a tad more (getting ready for the v2lab meet this sunday http://v2lab.com/theory/?p=1958) Saturday night i drove the car around to the club because i dj & every road smoothly... Sunday comes around & I had to take my grandpa to da airport & on our way I tried tested some of the bumps on the highway & the car began to shake slightly. i thought maybe i had to adjust the dampening a lil bit. i was driving on the fl turnpike & my car started shaking even harder & outta no where the car started making loud thumping noises so i pulled over quick. I came out the car & nothing looked wrong. so i inched up the car & the wheel started popping out the wheel well :wtf2: started to jack up the car & the wheel completely falls off. i look at the wheel & all the lugs are still locked on the studs... normally there's a slight ring the prevents the lugs from slipping the the rims, well apparently ALL 5 of them RIPPED COMPLETELY OFF :ohno: if i didnt pull over so quick the rim woulda went flying n the back woulda bottomed out... but now i need either a single g37 rim or i need a completely new set of rims FML car is garage bound until i can figure out this wheel situation

Sorry to hear. Glad you are safe and no one else is injured.

Questions reguarding your coilovers. What is your spring rate and height in the rears? If you dont mind, where did you purchase your coilovers? Your coilovers has a lower bottom seat that goes on top of the spring bucket. This is the first time I have seen this for the 07+ Altima's. I know BC Racing uses this on some of their other applications.

The lug nuts were over tightened. This is why this happened. What torque setting did you have your torque wrench on? I wouldn't go over 90ft/lbs. I torque mine to 87. Some shops around here do 100, but anything over and you risk what happened to you and/or your studs snapping.

^ I was going to suggest the same. Didnt think you could really tighten this much with a torque wrench though, with an air gun maybe? I personally hit mine with the torque wrench to about 90-95 or so just to account for the torque loss through my wheel key and socket.

But DAMN man, you are lucky you pulled over when you did. Saved the car and also yourself. Good luck.

LOLOLOL, that says alot about infinity quality: "Warning, your lugs may fall off." I' had thought about having lugs fall off while driving, but I never thought it could really happen. I Guess g37 rims shouldnt be suggested for tracking.

Good thing you pulled over and caught that before your wheel fell off at 80mph and ....
=)

Now that i seen the pics i believe that the you could of been using the wrong lug type mike. My brother-in-law's 08 g has a tapered lug with a flat flange, kind of like a dual purpose type lug. Look into it and see as a precaution because i've heard of this happening before because of the wrong lug type used. Loop he purchased the coils from me, that's the set i had on my sedan.

here is a link to the lugnut his wheels came equipped with from the dealer. I believe this design helps distribute the stresses and vibration more evenly over more surface area. Compared to having only the tapered lug sitting in the center.

Did you order a custom spring rate? Do you know the total height of the spring in mm? It would make sense to me if it was a custom spring rate.

i did order a custom spring rate. My application was 6kg front and 8 kg rear. The rear 8kg came from the 350z models which used that spring rate as standard application. For the 4th gen sedan and 08+ altima coupes i believe standard spring rates were 6kg for both front and back.

thanks man really appreciate it! i might pic this up if he sells them for cheaper... my budget is really tight at the moment... plus i would have to get that single rim painted to match the others.

After looking at the pictures Im wandering what kind of lugs you used also. I know some types are just not supposed to be used with OEM wheels. Ive never heard of this happening before unless someone was trying to run tuner lugs on a oem wheel. Good luck though when you find another wheel and post some more pics once the car is back on the road.
