I remember a post recently about the opposite happening when it was cold, and the possibilities were thermostat and low coolant (these don't apply to A/C). However, applying a bit of logic, the "similar, but different" thermostat possibility probably goes away (I'm not a refrigeration expert, but I don't think they ever restrict/block flow of coolant while in use). The "similar, but different" coolant possibility stands out, though, as coolant and refrigerant are both affected by engine speed (via the water pump and compressor). It stands out even more when you throw in kermit's post. Presumably the condenser needed replaced because it leaked (condensers don't have any moving parts), much like a radiator would have needed replaced in the "similar, but different" instance I have been referring to. IOW, and this advice comes with no experience or warranty, but perhaps you should start with an A/C recharge kit from your favorite auto-parts store and then talk to a refrigeration specialist (or mechanic who works on A/C's) if that doesn' t solve your problem (or if your problem comes back quickly). Note that the environmentally friendly thing to do would definitely be to go straight to a certified specialist since your system could be leaking, but I'm sure lots of people would tell you that it's not uncommon for a 5 year old car to need a re-charge (I just inadvertently had my 2006 M recharged, but it didn't need it), and there is no guarantee a certified specialist would check for leaks before doing a recharge (thus causing the same potential environmental harm).
