Having sort of an intresting a/c problem, was hoping someone might have delt with this before.

When I first start my car 9 times out of 10 the a/c will blow cool, maybe a few degrees below the outside temperature. Then after I drive around for a few minutes if I bring it up to about 6000 rpms suddenly it will blow ice cold and will keep blowing cold untill I stop the car again. Also if I don't do this but jump on the highway the temperature seems to drop the higher rpms I go, works perfectly at about 3000+.

I brought it into Nissan and the guy said it needed a new compressor but was pretty wishy washy about why it was happening. I think he just picked the most expensive part personally. Anyway, has anyone else seen this before? I just had the freon refilled so I know thats not it.

The car is a 97 240 SE with 28k miles on it.

Are you complaining that the A/C blows too cold? I'm not sure I understand what you are saying is wrong with your A/C. I rather enjoy having an A/C that blows cold...

No No, I'm complaining because its not blowing as cold as it should when I first start it. Like if its 95 outside it'll blow air thats about 90 degrees untill I redline it.

Is this while you are completely stopped and staying stopped? And if you bring the car back down to idle, does the air get warm again? If so, I'd guess there isn't enough freon or the compressor is bad.

If it only happens for the first couple of minutes (at most) then it's normal. Why did you need to recharge the freon btw? And did this start to occur right after it was charged or was it an existing problem? Did it start to occur a little while after you had it charged?

And lastly, is there anyone still using A/C at this time of year? =P
