I drive a '99 Maxima SE. My interior a/c - heater blower just quit working. I tested the fan by running on 12 volts and it works just fine. I looked at all of the fuses and none were blown. The compressor even kicks on and off when I turn the a/c on/off. But my interior fan will not blow the air. The digital readout shows that it switches from low to high when I press the up or down button, but the fan never comes on. Could this be a bad switch in the climate control panel? Or a bad resistor? Has anyone else experienced this? If you have, can you tell me where to look for parts and what to look for?

Did you ever resolve this problem? I have a 2002 Maxima GLE with automatic climate control and just experianced the exact problem last night. All of the controls and displays work, I can hear the the vents open/close when I manually switch "modes"/air flow, and all fuses are OK.

I did see a post for a Pathfinder with similiar problem. They concluded it was an AC Blower Amplifier (Part # 27761-70T03 Module Assy-Pow).

Appreciate any feedback (28 degrees in Dayton, OH -- need heat)

No, I never did. I tried replacing a few fan relays ($60) under the hood, but to no avail. I didn't really know where to go from there so I got a bit creative and rigged a new circut going straight to the fan. I noticed the fan runs at 15 amps. So I tied into the cigarette lighter's existing circut (also 15 amps) in the center console, included a simple on/off toggle switch within the same circut, unplugged the existing underdash wiring from the fan and ran "temporary" wiring to the fan from the toggle. (I removed the cagarette lighter's insert and just put the switch there) My fan operates at either full blast or not at all since the installation and I had to explain to my wife that the climate control should never be turned on unless the fan is on as this could cause the A/C system to freeze up. It can be a bit irritating at times because of the volume of airfow....but hey, I got mad windage now. Plus I only spent about $15 to fix it. It's worked fine for the past 2 months, problem now is.....it works just good enough to leave it alone and not fix it the right way when I actually do find out what happened in the first place. haha Let me know if you ever figure it out what caused the problem and how to fix it. (I don't envy your cold temp.) Good luck in your pursuit!

Thanks for the reply - sounds like you did a good job troubleshooting and came up with a practical workaround. It sounds like we have the same problem as I checked everything you did with the exception of direct wiring the fan to test. Believe it or not, I still have 800 miles left on my extended warranty—I thought it expired at 82K!! I paid $900 for the coverage and had about $500 in work done last year (oxygen sensors); maybe I’ll break even. I’m bringing it to the dealer on Thursday and will let you know what they do to fix it.

Please do, I'm interested to know the fix as well (for curiosity sake).

Hi there, just happened upon this post...

I fixed the same exact problem with my friend's '02 QX4. Just like you said, everything else works but the fan just doesn't turn on. It was the AC Blower Amplifier (Part # 27761-70T03 Module Assy-Pow).

It seems to be the weak point in the Nissan / Infiniti climate control system. The part ran about $175 after it was all said and done.

Dealer finally got the part in and it turned out to be the Blower Amplifier (part #27761-2Y000 Module ASM). Service manager called it a Resistor and mentioned he just replaced one on a 2002 Pathfinder with auto climate control. He also mentioned that there appears to be a link between a dirty cabin filter and amplifier failure (my filter was dirty). Agree, this part appears to be a weak link in the system.

Yeah, my friend's truck's in-cabin air filter had never been changed (70K miles) and was filthy too. I guess that that fan control amp. gets pretty hot and the dirty filter probably restricts air flow over it (the amp. in the QX4 is immediately next to the filter) so it overheats. Just a guess.

Glad you got to squeeze a bit more out of the warranty. I bet it's good to have heat again!

Hi Andrew,

My wife's car (2002 Infiniti QX4) has same problem described by others (temp controls are off by the fan is still going full force). Based on what you and others are mentioning - I'm looking to replace the AC Blower Amplifier.

However, I'm just curious where you got this part? I've looked on-line and searched the part number as you listed it (27761-70T03) and have also typed "AC Blower Amplifier" in search criteria...with nothing really being returned?

Any suggestions as to where I can get one of these?

Oh yeah, I also plan to replace the cabin filter based on what I've read as well.

Thanks in advance,

Gary D.

I have the same problems that you all are describing. I'm going out on a limb here by saying that the Maxima and the I-35 probably share the same part number. I just bought one for $65 but did another search and found one for almost half that. Here's the link:http://www.partsquick.com/Prod...31162

If I buy the part, is this something that can quickly and easily be installed by someone at home?
