A/C in stock S14 is not cold, Yes I SEARCHED

but the search wont let me use A/C in the description, so I searched air conditioning and did not find a lot of info pertaining to what is going on with my car.

1997 S14 all stock KA24DE.My A/C is not cold, its been that way since I bought the car 2 months ago.It starting to get hot here and I am going to need it. It turns on, but the air just isnt cold.I know nothing about A/C so be kind.couple of questions:-what type of refrigerant does it take? R134a I assume?-Could a low level of refrigerant cause this?-How do I know how much refrigerant to put in if I decide to refill it?-where did the missing refrigerant go? (if thats even the problem)-Anything I should check that would help me figure out why it is not blowing cold?thanks in advance.

just sounds like its a low charge. only other problem i could see is the compressor. you are correct, it takes r134a. since you are dealing with freon a licensed person needs to be working on it (so they say, but they sell recharge kits at walmart). shops usually have machines that will flush and recharge your system. i wish i could help you out more but i dont know much about A/C myself. i do have 2 friends ASE certified in A/C, so if you have any other questions i can run it by them. good luck!
