Took the car in for a service today and the A/C idle pulley is loose/noisey and needs replacing, and both drive belts are showing signs of deteriation (starting to get cracks etc). Does this sound about right for a car with less than 50k kms (30k miles basically).

Parts are all ex Japan (I would have thought the 350Z belts would have worked but apparently not). How much for these parts from the US? The US version should fit my car no doubt?

they should fit your car no problem

I paid $54 for the tensioner pulley and $12 bucks for the A/C Belt at

If you havent, then swap both belts at the same time.

Its weird to have a problem with this pulley at 50K. The dealer told me that they normally don't see this as a problem unless you have 120K or so

Thats EXACTLY what I thought. Hell, my car only has 30k miles (almost 50k kilometres) so I found it strange as well. Is this a common problem?

They said both drive belts needed doing, as well as the A/C belt., do you know what two belts they'd be referring two? Had a look on the site and kept getting a 'catagory empty' error.

referring to the 2 drive belts...one controls AC the other controls alternator and 2 other accessories.

VERY EASY to do it yourself

I looked on the site and couldnt find it either, so i gave them a call.

Bill there said the pulley assembly was $49, the pulley by itself can be ordered for around $40. belts were around $12 and $15

You should just give them a call. Their website is missing some stuff apparently.

Thanks man, greatly appreciated for the info.

I'm glad Nissan belts are cheap, Mitsu drive belts for FTO's were freaking exxy.

Thanks!

Just for general info - I had the belts and both idler pulleys replaced at the dealer about a month ago - 2 days after buying the G - it was highway robbery at the dealer - I know that the A/C pulley price I was quoted from the parts department prior to having the work done was $89. I am guessing that the other idler pulley was about the same price plus the two belts that couldnt cost more than $20 each (on a bad day in the middle of nowhere)... as the dealer I bought the car from was paying Infinity for the work I let them do the job - final cost for both idler pulleys, both belts, and the labor (they had the car less than 3 hours) came to an insane price of $562 and change. Yet another reminder to do my own work when its coming out of my pocket.

Thanks for the info. Infiniti does not exist in Australia and Nissan can be pretty sneaky depending on where you take it, so I just take my car to a local high performance centre. I trust them and they know what they are doing, but it does suck when service centres try and rob you blind.

You should have disputed the cost, no harm in trying, the price can only go down.

If it were my $ I would have done the job myself - the dealer I bought the car from paid the tab - otherwise I would have done the job myself - the entire problem was that the place I bought it from must have replaced the belts and didnt tighten down the pulleys after setting the tension - it drove fine until I started it the next day and the idler pulleys - both of them - fell off. things didn't seem to line up and it turned out some spacer parts were missing and the dealer said they couldn't replace just the spacer as only came with the complete pulley assembly. I figure I could have done the labor in less than an hour but as the bill was on the selling dealer's tab I let them do the work.
