Does anything need to be replaced when the A/C system is opened up? This is on my wrecked car that lost its charge and the system sat open for one year. the hard parts are replaced with good used parts but I'm not sure if i just get it charged and go.

thanks!

Anytime you loose a charge, you replace the receiver-dryer unit to remove moisture from lines. Also replace any orings and defective mechanicals.

Good idea to use a special gaseous flush process on any items not changed that have been exposed to moisture.

All depends on how many years you want the system to perform near new?

Most used car dealers just refill and sell because the as is usually makes it past the current summer and the buyer doesn't test to see if it's on ragged edge of cooling.

10 years is the useful unfailing average life anyway of compressors.

May want to consider having a filter installed in the hose going onto the compressor. Your system will last much longer. I have a local AC shop that will cut the hose and install a filter.

I just do not trust that even a really good flush will get out all the debris. And replacing the compressor is a lot harder and more expensive than installing the filter.
