A/C Default Question

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Every time I turn on the climate control, the A/C always comes on, even if it was in the off state when I turned it off. Even with the temp up around 76 degrees.

Is this normal behavior? It seems odd to me, but this is my first car with an automatic climate control.

Thanks!

The light comes on but it isnt doing anything. This is normal and you need the system to be "ON" in case the climate control decides it wants to cool things down. Consider it as a "ready" light and not really a "doing work" light.

Just curios, if you have your vents directed on defoger( you know that wavee simbol). Try change it to your face or feet or both, just away from defrost/defoger. A/C kicking-in as a must to defog windows, but you can turn it off.Hope it helps...

That's just weird. I get "ready" lights on electronics and computers and such, but it just seems odd to have it light up if ready, but not necessarily on. For that matter, why have it light up at all? (rhetorical)

Does anyone not have it light up like this? If this is normal for the EX, then no problem. I was just concerned that it was out of the ordinary (as I consider it).

Thanks for the responses.

When the A/C light is on, it means that the air conditioning is eligible to come on, if conditions so dictate. This is essentially what 302@12psi told you.

When you say "Every time I turn on the climate control" do you mean every time you engage Auto mode from manual mode? If so, it's behaving normally. When you transition to Auto mode, the vehicle assumes you want it to "automatically" keep to the selected temperature and so, it enables the A/C.

If you want the system to do its best to maintain the temperature setpoint without using A/C, you can push the A/C button to turn it off. This setting will be preserved even if you turn the car off and back on again, as long as you keep it in Auto mode.

Yeah. I get it, but... I suppose I'd rather know when it's "on" instead of just ready. I had been constantly trying to turn it off and was wondering if something was wrong.

Thanks all for clearing up my confusion.
