What is the best way to find an A/C leak ? I converted to r134a but when i charge the system it only stays charged for a day, then it will have all leaked out. I tried to put some stop leak/red dye in but i cant see it leaking out ? any other ideas ?

Why anyone would convert to R134a is beyond me as all the components are designed for R12.Without changing the condenser and evaporator/hoses dryer [EVERYTHING] you end up at best with 90% effectiveness compared to R12.

R12 is only more expensive if you have leaks!........R134a is a smaller molecule so it leaks out faster.

I thought r12 was illegal and no longer available ? do you have a private stash of r12 ? i would gladly buy some from you. But honestly the r134a blows very cold while it is in the system. If it would stay inside the system i would be very happy

R12 is not legal to manufacture or buy off the shelf, but it is available, and most shops still perform AC services for R12 systems.Check along the lines and look for oily, grimy areas. Look at the front/back of the condenser too, you might have some rock damage. A UV light might help find the dye if it's the fluorescent type.

There are additives you can buy and add into the AC system and then use a black light to look for leaks, auto zone carries it, most auto stores would also carry it.The o-rings on the condenser where the AC lines connect would be a good place to look for leaks.
