A/C Compressor

Hey Everyone!

I've lurked around here for awhile, but this is my first time posting. I am contemplating purchasing a 1993 J30 with 180,000 miles. All the typical maintenance associated with a car with this mileage has been checked out. The A/C compressor needs to be replaced however and I have not been able to find an estimate of cost anywhere on the boards. Does anyone have any idea what it would cost to replace the A/C Compressor?

Rebuilt compressors cost between 300-600 depending on what you get (300 is for a cheapie, 600 is for OEM)...

You can probably use a Z32 AC compressor.

All-up, out here, you won't have much change back from $1000. That's compressor, drier (they'll insist, and they're mostly right), labor, and full-servicing once it's done.

A lot depends on how close to as new cooling you desire. A good idea to PAY to have evaporator/condenser removed for cleaning [inside and out] lots of dirt hair you name permeates every pore.NEW O RINGS at every connection. After the flush new oil in every component, critical to get the 8 ounce replacement exact.

I would also factor in how long you want to keep the car into how much you want to spend on an AC repair. Some of the cheaper fixes are only good for a season.
