I haved searched for this topic with no success before posting...

Well I have a 93 with the stock KA. A couple of months ago my A/C just stopped blowing cold in the car, I check the fuse under the dashboard and it was burnt out so I replaced it and the A/C was nice and cold again. Well it only took about 10 minutes for the new one to burn out as well. Every time I replace the a/c fuse it burns out anywhere between 1 minute --1 day. My neighbor, who work as a volvo tech. told me its my compressor clutch...? Have you guys ever heard of the a/c fuse just burning out repeatedly? And while the fuse does last, the a/c works just fine. Any info I can get would be great like where its located on the car and where i might be able to pick one up. Thanks in advance.

Many things can cause a fuse to blow, just saying its the clutch is ignorant, no offense to your Volvo buddy. You could also have a short, but if you did chances are it would blow as soon as you used the A/C or put in the fuse. Could also be a bad relay. To many possibilites to just start pointing fingers w/o actually looking into the problem.

Let me ask you something, is it the A/C fuse your replacing or the blower motor (fan)? Does the fan work when that fuse is blown?

The clutch could be hanging up and causing the compressor to work harder, pulling more amps resulting in the fuse blowing. It could also be your entire compressor going.

Thanks for the reply.

I am replacing the a/c fuse

also, it keeps blowing strong after the fuse blows and its no longer cold.

And as I said before, sometimes the fuse wont even last 1 minute and sometimes it has lasted a couple of hours.

I, too, have searched the web and could find nothing on this problem. I am having the same problem. Fan still works, fuse is the a/c fuse under the hood (15). Have no idea where to start. Figured replace the clutch. Any help would be appreciated.

I would also try checking the wires (specifically the power) coming from the ac compressor and anything around the fuse box. Could be possible you have a break in the insulation of the wire and it's grounding out. Would explain the 1 min or 1 hour deal. Especially if someone ghetto fixed a wire before you owned the car. I've seen some pretty stupid things before.
