I just had the A/C stop working suddenly. The 10A A/C fuse was blown. Replaced the fuse and I do have proper voltage to the clutch coil when in the a/c is in "Auto" and it calls for the compressor to kick in.

The coil resistance is around 1.5 ohms, which from reading online tells me it's starting to short internally. I think it should read 3-5 ohms.

Problem is, nobody has just the compressor clutch assembly even though it's shown online. Z1 just called to cancel my order, Courtesy Parts says no Nissan deal in the US has one and they are no longer made. I bought a junk compressor so I could fab up the special tools needed, but it's coil reads 12 ohms.

I still have R12 and the system works great otherwise, so I'd rather not have to replace the whole compressor and then do all the conversion to 134A.

Is there any other make/model that uses the same clutch, or even just the same coil? The coil is really all that needs replacing. It's July in Houston and I'm kind of screwed right now.

Thanks.

Your best bet is to bite the bullet and convert to R134a with a new compressor, I've tried multiple times to find a clutch and at the end of the day if you find one it will end up costing you 2/3 the price of a new compressor. 134a is cheap and if you get a good shop to do the work they may even work a deal with you on the evacuated R12. BTW I have a R134 compressor that works That I could let go of cheap.

I just finished swapping out the coil from the spare compressor. Turns out those little red multi-meters they give away free with purchase at Harbor Freight are worth just about what you pay for them.

I tested resistance on the spare again with a good meter and it was around 4 ohms. Cold A/C is back now! It's about a 2 hour job if you know what you're doing, but it took me an extra day to make a puller tool and spanner for the clutch hub.

Congrats man, yeah the only thin I get from harbor freight are dumb tools, anything that can be used as a bludgeon, otherwise, I'll pony up for craftsman or snap on.
