Alright I am completely lost here. I have a '90 240 with a Nihon a/c compressor on it and I recently converted it to r134 and my front seal blew out. I got a new seal and pulled off my compressor to put it in. I tried all of the clutch removal tools in our shop and none of them fit ( they are all too small ) so I went next door to the nissan dealer to borrow one of their tools and they had the same ones we have. I have searched the local parts stores too and they only have the same ones that I have. So where in the hell do I find the right tool for this thing? I am kind of aggravated over this whole thing now because I have been searching for my leak and went through 5 pounds of refrigerant with dye in it before I found the leak and now that I have found it I cant fix it! Can anyone please help me? I am desparate now because I dont have $300 for a new compressor.

I personally wouldn't bother with trying to replace it. Most of the time seals go because there is too much shaft play. I'm sure someone would sell you a dirt cheap used one. If you work at a shop they usually sell reman compressors pretty cheap. Even new ones are pretty cheap at cost. I think I usually pay around $150 for new ones through NAPA.

Try doubling that $150, at the very least.

Well, I am sure that the seal went because of the change in oil, I put G.M. PAG oil in it. And I havent found a compressor cheaper than $275 at my cost.

Okay guys I am not getting my message across here so I will put it in plain english one last time. My compressor works great. I already have a new seal for it. I only need to find the correct service tool to fix my existing compressor. And I do not have a couple hundred dollars to spend on another compressor be it remanufactured or used. Thanks for the help but I only want to find the tool and nothing more

You will probably have to check with an a/c shop, napa, snap-on, mac, etc. etc. Because it is not cost effective for shops to tear down compressors to replace a seal they will not do it. Therefore they will not have the tools. But NAPA can usually get any tool you would ever need. The same goes for your tool salesmen. If you work in a shop they should come by every week.

Well after all that whining and frustration I didnt even need a F!!@#$%# tool, the clutch just slid off with my hands. There is a threaded provision on the front of the clutch for a removal tool, but obviously it isnt a very tight fit. Anyways let this be some good info for the next guy that runs into this situation. I gotta say though, those universal A/C clutch tools probably fit like 90% of all autos and I had to have one that falls into the other category lol.... Oh well I guess that I should have tried to pull it off before I went on a wild-goose-chase for a special tool
