A/C Busted?

Hi all,

I posted this on the Technical page and someone recommended I re-post here.

I had my A/C checked and the guy said I need a new compressor, blower, etc. Thing is, it's blowing cold right now.

Ny A/C light stays off when I set the controller on 1 & 2, but it works on 3 & 4. Do I really need to get all these parts? Maybe a new controller would do it?

your blower might be fine, if it has a blower switch. maybe a relay style. which is causing it to only work on certain blower speeds. if your blower seems to be stressing under the two speeds it works then it could be the blower, but you should be able to tell if its stressing. for your compressor it could have a small leak. you say it blows cold and usually if you have 134a it can last a summer then you need to get recharged and it will last another summer. if the guy is not crooked it could be leaking out the seals of the compressor. if you have a black light and some yellow tinted safety glasses you should beable to see the leak if he used dye. the sniffer gadget isnt very accuarate.

its blowing cold now? is it cold outside? that could do it. compressor and blower are completely separate. if the a/c light is only coming on sometimes then you have a control problem. that is usuall(but not always) a control head.
