hello. I am fairly new to this forum and hope that someone could give me some sound advice. I have a 2006 M45 sport. The other day I hit the throttle hard and after that the AC stopped blowing cold air. Now regardless of the temp 60-70's it blows warm air. The heat works fine and gets hot but the AC does not blow cold. I checked the relay and fuses. All were fine. The AC comes on (i can hear it engage), the fans blows but no cold air. Help please. I was going to recharge it but needed more info

Hot air could mean you have a leak and the charge is gone. Start by setting the temp down to the lowest setting while driving on the highway. Also set the external vent to recirculate and if there is absolutely no cool air either you have a leak of the clutch either is not working or is not powered. There is a relay that control the compressor, did you check it and test it? Check your condenser for any major hits. That may be your source of a leak.
You also mentioned that this happened after a hard start, perhaps the engine mounts are bad causing too much flex in the piping?

Get it tested for leaks before recharging it. Keep our environment clean :)

Thank a bunch. it happened after I hit the throttle hard to avoid an accident. I tested the system and it's charged. the compressor and fans come on also. where exactly is the relay?

you might want to check your serpentine belts as well, they could have busted if they haven't been changed and that will make the AC blow hot air as well

Unfortunately my alldata tells me
"NOTE: The compressor clutch or A/C relay is located in the IPDM (intelligent power distribution module) and is not serviceable separately."

Sounds like it's integrated within the actual body of the IPDM.

found the issue. the compressor clutch is not engaging. there is power going to the compressor. the pully spins also but the clutch doesn't. I just recently bought the car as is and had to change the belts recently. They were shredded beyond belief. Upon further inspection I noticed pieces of the old belt behind the pulley of the compressor. it may be more keeping the clutch from engaging. I don't know

Ouch... Sorry to hear that!
Bad time to happen with the weather getting warmer. Think you're looking @ $400+ for a new one...

Sorry to hear. Make sure you get a new compressor installed. I went through this in a previous life and kept going back because it was blowing up. Turns out the mechanic kept using used compressors from a junk yard, he also USed the newer gas but didn't change the compressor to support. What a dummy!
