OK. Here's the deal. My 1991 black hatch, KA24DE. She overheats a little, has trouble starting, and eats a/c belts.

Overheating - drained the old NASTY coolant and put in a new Tstat. Put new fluid in and she sat good for a few mins of light in town driving got a little hot but cooled back down as i was pulling back in the garage. I guess I need to get some more air out. Also has a badly rigged elec. fan that is ALWAYS on. Fan starts up when you turn the key on and stays on until you turn the key off.

A/C belt - I put a brand new belt on and it didn't last 10min. Got in started up and a/c was ICE COLD! Drove her less than a mile and let her sit running for about 5-7min. Got back in and a/c wasn't cold anymore. Belt GONE!

Starting probs - Sometimes she starts right up. Sometimes not.... Got her a few days again and dead battery. Put new one in and turned key....nothin. Hit the clutch a little hard and she started up. Drove her about a mile to my garage. Killed her and tried to start her again....nothin. Crossed the leads on the solenoid and usually after i got the solenoid to spin she'd start up. Took the starter to AutoZone and tested perfectly. Cleaned the leads and put her in. She started right up. drove her a little got the a/c belt and overheadting problems and killed her. and tried to start her again...nothin. let it cool off. tried to start again...nothin. got mad and slammed the clutch and she started. drove her to a parking spot for the night. tried to start again and nothin. slammed the clutch again...nothin...slammed the clutch 3 more times and still nothing.....

Any suggestions, advice, comments? Thanks I REALLY appreciate it.

Your AC compressor could be low on oil and possibly locking up.....

as far as the no start........check to make sure your clutch pedal switch is good....

do your lights dim when you turn the key and try to start???

A/C blew ICE cold for the few min the belt was on though could it still be low on oil?And I plan on checking the switch as soon as I get home.No lights are good. Battery is brand new. I did notice when I turn the key the clock in the gauge cluster turns on but when I turn the key fully to start the car the clock fades out. Good or bad?

Oil and freon are 2 different things....if the compressor is locking up it may still work ok...but put a high load on the belt....

replace the belt but don't turn the ac on for a while....see if the belt shreds if the ac is not used...if it is then the bearings on the ac clutch are shot

all the accesories are meant to go off when starting to conserve energy, but what you should look for is current draw. If you have a voltmeter hook it to the battery and have a buddy watch it....if the voltage drops when you try to start it then the starter still may be to blame....if the voltage doesn't really drop then the clutch switch is possibly the problem.

OK. Thanks alot. I really appreciate the help. I'll try all that when I get home at 5 and post what I find later tonight.

The A/C will have to wait till tomorrow. But I put a Voltmeter up and had a friend start it. the voltage only dropped 0.2v. So starter is good. Next on to the wiring diagrams.......damn i hate those.......

Don't worry about the diagrams yet......test that clutch switch! You can use an insulated jumper wire to fake the computer out....just pull the connector off the switch at the pedal and jumper the 2 leads together. If she starts flawlessly then you know your switch is the culprit!

Thanks Vanquish2. Was the switch. All is good now. Now just to see if I got all the air out of the coolant and to see whats wrong with my A/C compressor

All my probs are fixed. Overheating: Air in the coolant - fixed. Starting: Clutch safety switch - fixed. A/C: New belt - fixed.
