first: My coupe has a injen intake, borla exhaust, and stillen underdrive pulley... the cobalt has a injen intake and all the other tubing for the turbo(charge pipe, etc.)... neither of our cars have been tuned yet

ok so heres the story... my friend and I have both been talkin alot of s*** on facebook to see who has the fastest coupe.. so lastnight we decided to settle the score and see who can go home wit the title... we go to our spot where all the races go down.. we line up look at each other and hook three times and GO... i was shocked when i jumped put in front and when i pulled a car and a half in front of him... we did do it in a 1/4 mile( we taped it off when we first started doin this) and the best thing is that it was all on video (the camera man just sucked) we both decided to go to the track when we both have time to see how we run on the track

Cobalts are a joke unless its turbo with all the aftermarket performance works... and I'm talking all (injectors, pulley, headers, etc) even then it only gets ~300 hp.

300 hp =~ what the 3.5 coupe gets with an exhaust and intake.

And no, we aren't talking to the wheels. Just a rough comparison.

But all in all, if he's got all of that aftermarket junk it's more of a fair race against a AltiCoupe.

lol, yeah, I was wondering about that. I would think you'd need every bolt on out there to hit 300hp.

Mcheddi has a thread somewhere stating how we can hit +26 hp or something with just bolt ons. That does not include pulley, headers, etc.

300hp isn't that far fetched for our cars. Certainly not to the wheels, but it's there.

True, or close to it (I usually hear 12-13 for both), but then there is the effect of the underdrive pulley. Prob not gonna get you to an equivalent of 300 HP but with all 3 mods you might get 290+?

Cobalts SS turbocharged (stock) are no laughing matter. They are pocket rockets. 2.0 L Ecotec LNF Turbo I4 with 260hp and they do 0-60 in 5.7Sec! thats 10hp less than our altima and as fast. If you win against one its because the driver sucks.

Ecotec engines have been tuned to more than 1000hp without problems to the block, those are one of the best engine for turbo potential in the world!with a simple turbo upgrade you can push 350 whp easily.

When your friend get's his tune, its going to be a whole new ball game

You'll get ~5 at the wheels. But again, if you read I wasn't talking at the wheels.

Besides, everyone knows it usually comes down to the driver.

Most kids driving a cobalt have no clue what they're doin. Least in my experience.

mehdi your talking about 2 different cars, the OP raced the supercharged one not the Turbo one. supercharged ones are still decently quick but the Turbo ones are very fast.....

well, i raced a supercharged SS today. some of my friends kept bugging me to race the guy and today when we were going to a car show (about 6 cars of us) and me and the SS get a chance to go but from a roll (i'm much better from a stop). i'm going to say we went from a 40ish roll to about 120 MPH. in the beginning it was dead even but once we hit 100 he started to pull ahead and won by 1 car length. i think from a stop it will be very close and i might win. also, he's not stock, he has a Stage 2 which is pulley, ECU, and some other stuff.

yea...when you post about your location...don't use a period, haha. L.A. is not the same as LA or La.

L.A. is millions of people including MANY men that make a living off of solely dragracing. La...yea...not so much.

mchedaddi, did you just take two different reviews from two different sources???? not a good idea.... not only are certain reviews biased, but the fact that they woould be using different drivers means a lot.

With the CVT, the launch is soooo important on getting a good 0-60 time, and I'm sure every driver doesn't launch the same...

I think Edmonds has the CVT doing 0-60 in 6.2 seconds... so go figure!

also, we've had folks with documented times faster than 14.6 in the 1/4 with the CVT (and I'm not talking about Hussain with his exhaust off either, I think he did faster than 14.6 with his exhaust on)

I searched far and wide for the absolute BEST times I could find for both transmission. I know it depends on the driver and the driving conditions but those are the BEST times I found anywhere.

IDK. Those Turbo Cobalts are pretty quick. I think it does 1/4 in upper 13s. The Cobalt should beat the AC CVT at least a 1-1/2 car in 1/4 mile considering if both are skilled drivers.

Went up against one of these yesterday, some teenager driving one,. I was at a red light, the douche in his Black SS (unsure if it was s/c or turbo) cut me off turning right after my light had turned green and I was almost on him! Then he punches it pretty hard and gets 4-5 car lengths ahead before I even hit the throttle much, I naturally return the cut off favor but do so as I'm 4 car lengths in front of him, lol... He then proceeds to tailgate me for the next few miles with his HID's shining up on me. Great fun.
