What was the problem again with putting headers on our cars? I can't find anything in the search. I really want to apply headers to my car and i know a custom exhaust shop thats local and does a great job. They make all of their systems from high quality material and are cheap. I'm going to talk to them and see what they say about making me some custom headers. Any thoughts??

Well, space is going to be a problem, but your biggest concern is going to be the SES light. The o2 sensors on this car are wideband. So far no one has found a way around them, to my knowledge, so when you install the headers, the car will sense the emissions problem, and drop your engine hp to protect itself anyways lol

That's so lame, They should definetly find a way around that. I'll talk to the company that i might have the work done and see what they say.

There must be a way to get around this. I think at full throttle the o2 sensor ignores the air readings to gain performance. Maybe there's a way to trick the sensor into thinking its running at full throttle all the time..hahah

Why can't the wideband O2 sensors be changed/tweaked?

That's my point...It doesnt seem like it should be that difficult to do, but you never know.

It might've been a problem for the sedans but I don't think anyone has tried it on the coupes yet. Also, has anyone looked into high flow cats?

I'm not sure about the cats, but isn't the sedan's engine the same as ours. So im guessing that if its impossible in the sedan than our fate might be the same.

Hopefully not though. I just hope that a company starts developing more hp mods soon. I dont want to shell out the money for FI and id rather spend it on something like headers, CATS, or cams would also be nasty. Natural power is great and cheap....FI is a blast tho, dont get me wrong. SOMEONE START MAKING SOME MODS WITH POWER HIGH OUTPUTTING POWER GAINS!

Wouldn't a major exhaust mod like headers/hfc's change the air/fuel ratio drastically? Wouldn't that mean to get the most out of them you'd need to tweak the ecu?

I think one of the reasons that there aren't too many performance parts are being made (besides the fact that its a new model) is because the A/C isn't available in Japan. Thus there isn't as big of a market and a lot of R&D goes on there.

Point taken. Maybe Stillen could put together some headers or ECU mods. I'm sure those would sell very well, they should definetly look into it....

Hey, just curious, since Turbonetics and Artisan are turbo'ing a coupe right now, there have to be some exhaust mods going on......wonder if the header config has changed, or if they've had to deal with this......

Any thoughts?

i dont know if this problem will plague the 4th gen or not, but it certainly did plague the 2005-2006 models. the car runs great but the SES light will make you flunk the emission tests. if you live in a state with no emission testing i would just tape over the SES light

I'd look to Stillen on this, they'll probably be the first to have a set done. To my understanding, they already have the project approved but haven't started development and don't have a known date for anything yet. This is one thing I haven't really looked at on the car. Most headers have the wideband sensor before the cat and after the collector, it's primary purpose is to monitor air/fuel mixture. Normally when a manufactor changes the header design the biggest benefit is bypassing the cats, of course the a/c has some weird squished bends everywhere . Normally the is another sensor after the cat which is only used to monitor emissions. I don't know how it is setup on the 3.5 and feel kind of bad now that I haven't taken the time to look, after all it is my car.
