so i was very exited to bake my headlights so i could match the housing with the color of my car (black).
my friend and I put one of the headlights in at 250 degrees for approx 15 minutes.........we checked and the adhesive on the light was still hard.
we left it in for a couple minutes more, and still nothing..
we left it a little longer and nothing, the adhesive was STILL hard.
we put up the temp to about 275 and put it in for longer, approx 30 minutes.
and NOTHING. on one of the times before that, my friend decided to turn the headlight up so the light was facing up, once we checked on it, the adhesive was still hard and I noticed that the heat had a negative effect on the light. The clear part had a "dry lake" effect where apparently it looked like a lake dried up so now it has lines going everywhere. you can't really see it from far away, but if you get closer you can tell, and even more at an angle. so he turned it back around and we left it in longer, until we gave up since we did not want to damage the light anymore.
I am not sure if nissan overdid how much adhesive they put on the 2009 a/c headlight but:
1) it never opened
2) i have a small f*** up on the right headlight..

comments/ advice or questions on what happened would be greatly be appreciated, specially from those who have done it.
thanks guys!

p.s: no haters please! :hater:

That sucks, no idea though, I've never baked and I'd advise on getting a spare set of headlights before ever doing something like that.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. :frown: I remember you sending me a PM regarding your headlights but after going through my sent box, I didn't see a reply from me to you. Not sure if I deleted it to make space or what.

Anyway, Like I tell EVERYONE that PMs me about doing their lights, this mod is not for the weak at heart nor is it cheap like putting stickers all over your dash trim (sorry Matt) :chuckle: A LOT of people have tried and A LOT have failed. I think elevate can attest to that statement. I've opened so many lights now, for members and local guys/gals, that I have it down to a science. Honestly, I can open a pair of lights in under 10 working minutes, not counting the bake time. The labor cost of what I charge is minimal when you consider the cost of a new headlight IF and WHEN you mess it up. What side did you mess up? I may have an extra lens that I can sell to you but I have to check my inventory..

its not hard to open the lights. your problem is that you left them in there for too long. I left mine in for I think 5 min at 350 degrees. you can look at some write ups to get the exact time and temp but I THINK thats correct (not positive though). The thing with our lights is that the seal is really strong. when you bake them, dont expect it to be hella easy. after I bake'd the lights, the sealant became softER.... not soft, it became softer. then just stick a flat head screw driver in the seal and pry around the whole light. I've baked my lights and did everything perfect. my lights fogged up a LITTLE BIT for a couple days but after that, I never had issues with the lights fogging up. the only issue I do have with my lights is because I used gas to polish 1 of the lights (old arab remedy that usually works... except for our lights). so I have little cracks from the gas. if you follow my steps without using gas to polish the lights, they'll be fine lol use "plast-X" by meguiers or how ever its spelled. I got it at walmart for less then $5 and it makes the lights look new. try that on your light that is messed up. if you want to bake your lights, look for my write up.... type in "baking my lights" or "baking my lights right now" in google and you should find the thread.

Yeah I just checked and the lens that I have is the right side but it's scratched to $hit. You wouldn't want to use them,.. I wouldn't want to use them. Be careful when you polish the inside of the lens as there is no protective coating like there is on the outside. I agree with Hussain with using the plast-x polish. I used it to clean up my lens and it came out looking perfect.
