Alright guys, Im having some family issues, so too take my mind off things, I bought 45$ worth of paint and supplies and decided to repaint my car since the current paint job looked like big bird dropped a deuce on my ride.
The current paint job had no clear coat, had zillions of scratches, and felt like 320 grit sandpaper. I also tried pulling off the door/fender trim to reveal the OEM black lines, but as you can see I couldn't get some of the fender trim off. My plan was just to paint the car entirely white, which I accomplished quite well in my mind. Took me about 6 hours from start to finish.
Ok, first step was drive 2 hours to a friends house with a driveway and compressor. Heres how the car looked when I arrived (splotchy single stage paint with no clear coat):
Next plan of action is to wet sand the entire car to get her nice and smooth and to get rid of the gritty-ness. I had tons of 500 grit sand paper in my trunk so I used what was on tap.
After wet sanding the car it was time for me to wash the car with Dawn dishwasher soap, wipe her down with a tack clothe, then get the joker taped and papered up: Note for those do it your selfers, go grab yourself a ton of thrifty nickle papers from the grocery store, it will save ya loads of....nickles (ok Im lame, I admit)
After getting her wrapped up I sprayed on a light coat of gray sealer, so I had a clue as to where I was painting and could keep a straight and steady pattern.
After spraying the sealer I let it flash for 45 minutes, wet sanded her with 1000 grit to get some of the gritty-ness off and re-scuffed her back up with a rough sponge and dawn dishwasher soap. After the paint dried, I sprayed on 2 coats of super white from an 03 Pontiac Grand Prix. It sucked because I didnt buy enough paint nor reducer. So I had to stretch the paint I did have. After the paint settled in I clear coated the car, unfortunately I ran out of clear coat, but got pretty much everything clear coated as well. Theres some streaking with the clear coat, but once I block it with 1500 ten 2000 grit it will look pretty dang good. Heres the finished result after several coats of clear (which I hustled up on because it was starting to get dark and cold).
Thats currently how she sits. Ive painted this car so much within the last year Im sure she has issues with figuring out who she is. I like the white paint far more then the bass boat gray. Plus this was my first time using a real spray gun and large compressor. What do you guys think? Next project is getting the front bumper to bolt up with no gaps.
