I had a car that did that. It was a cobra motor and after i sold it the guy told me it was some problem with cylinder. Not 100% what though...

i thought it might be a cylinder prob too but the compression is perfect across cylinders 149 psi across all 4 not bad for 168000mi.

ok here the skinny when i ease on the throttle its sort of fine but when i go gung ho the car sputters bad and wont accel. it seems like electrical like a sensor could it be the MAF or IACV idk o yea its not the motor because it was rebuilt meaning just the gaskets were replaced no internals

Hmm.Just some things I'd check (I have no idea if this is really it)

1. Unplug MAF see if car runs better or worse.2. Use a factory service manual to check that Throttle Positioning Sensor is working correctly. 3. You said your injectors are working fine, just curious, how did you know?4. Maybe your fuel pump is going out? I guess put a fuel pressure gauge in and verify that you have proper fuel pressure when you are pushing on the accelerator.

Did it just start to happen one day or has it slowly gotten worse?

Honestly if you have no idea on how to even start and don't want to actually spend the time to find a factory service manual and research it, perhaps you'd be better off taking it to a mechanic.

My car is kind of doing the samething but it started right after washing the engine down. But mine sputters right when I hit the gas then accelerates fine.. But thats in park.. When I try to drive it wont accelerate much at all.

When did it start doing this? Have you ever seen it run right? Have you checked your timing? If you replaced/removed the distributor or removed either timing chain for any reason, then I will bet your a tooth or so off on either or both. But we need more info on what was leading up to this problem.

have you tested fuel pressure? run the car with the vacuum hose to fuel pressure regulator disconnected, but plug the vac line. see if thats lessons the problem.

also get the ignition coil tested.

i heard a bad egr will cause something similar.

its just a way to test the fps. if it runs better it means that the fuel pressure regulator needs replaced.

if you spray carb cleaner in it and it runs fine then you obviously have a fueling problem. the injectors should ohm out from around 11 to 13 ohms. you need to identify which cylinder is missing. you can do that by pulling plug wires while it is running. if it gets worse when you pull the wire out of the cylinder than it's not the cylinder you pulled the wire from. if it stays the same than that's the cylinder that's missing (not to say you're not aware of this test but just to cover the basics) compression fire and fuel is all a motor needs to run. don't rule out clogged injectors either. it's not that big of a deal to pull the injector just be SUPER careful not to break it just in case it's not the issue. any problem could be easily figured out with consult, so maybe you should consider taking it to a shop with one.
