Okay I barely got my S14 2 weeks ago, so forgive me if this sounds noobie. Anyhow, After a spirited mountain drive (20 miles of curves roundtrip in the hills of SoCal) I got home, popped the hood, and quickly glanced at the 4 main fluids - Coolant, Engine Oil, Brake fluid, and power steering fluid. All the levels were within spec, however I noticed a 5th fluid reservoir which wasn't listed in the owners manual that came with the car. This is a small, white canister-type plastic reservoir with a white cap, and it's located on the firewall to the immediate right of the master cylinder, in between the master cylinder and the horn. The fluid was above MAX and I don't know if this was because of the drive or it was simply overfilled. So my question now is, what is that fluid for, and why isn't it in the owners manual?

if it is directly to the right as if looking at it from the front of the car it is your clutch master cyl. and the cap should be yellow not white.

The only reservoir with a white cap is the washer fluid reservoir.

Thats not it is it?

Okay I know I'm not totally noob when it comes to cars, but correct me if I'm mistaken:

PHOTO 1 - Inside right fender closest to firewall: isn't that the cruise control actuator, since the cable running out of it goes directly to the throttle pulley?

PHOTO 2 - Inside left fender closest to firewall: there's the master cylinder, and there's the fluid reservoir I was asking about; the cap looks white but upon closer inspection I can see that it does have some sort of yellow tint to it, and finally the horn :)

I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but this particular S14 was originally from Arizona.

Since I'm on the subject of Arizona, I'm about to get this car smogged (I live in California now OMG) and I know in Arizona they have to pass smog for registration too. Is there anything I might be missing to pass the CA smog check? I know CA smog is a [female dog] to pass, but I'm hoping that if it will pass AZ it has a good chance of passing CA.

By the way I put a stock muffler and the stock airbox back on; the rest of the car (engine-wise) is all stock parts too.

that is your clutch master and you should not have any prob passing smog as long as the car runs decent and all your equipment is hooked up and in good working order

I think CARB just slaps you in the face w/ limited aftermarket options...as far as a stock car goes you should be fine.

That thing with the white(ish) top is your clutch master cylinder reservoir. OK, so I was wrong about the cruise control, but if you had ABS your CC would be located where that horn thing is. That does look like a horn, but your real horns (2 of them) are behind your bumper in front of the radiator.

Hmm... maybe it's for the factory "anti-theft"? I don't have the remotes so I don't know =P
