Hi everyone, new member here and I'm having some trouble with my 240. It's a 1991 240SX SE from Canada. It's got Super HICAS which I'd like to axe in the future but for now I just need it running right. Bought the car last summer and it never ran quite right, the idle would jump around sometimes and every once in a while it would stall when I was driving and came to a stop. I'd also feel a slight hesitation in the throttle sometimes. Having just bought the car I didn't have the money to put in it right away so I put it up for the winter like that.

Fast forward to last week, I just took it out of storage and drove it about 30-40 miles and it was great. Took it out for a little ride later and about 10 minutes in I went to step on the gas and the car felt like it was straining and refused to accelerate. When stepping on the gas the car kind of jerked around or clugged. I didn't know what the deal was since this had never happened before so I pulled of to the side of the road and shut her down, turned her right back on and took off. The car started right back up fine but but just down the street the throttle refused to rev correct and accelerate again. It did this all the way back to my place which was a few miles away from where it started.

I've had a couple friends who know more about cars than me look at it and they couldn't make too much of it. One of them thinks the O2 censor might have something to do with it. If any of you guys can clue me in on anything that might help my problem that would be awesome. If you need any more information about anything in specific I'll do my best to fill you in.

My next question has to do with suspension. Most if not all of the suspension components need to be replaced. Since my car has Super NICAS does that mean I need some kind of special rear suspension? I've been looking on ebay at different options and I guess right now for what I want and can afford the Tokico shocks and springs set on ebay for $399.99 + shipping looks good. Can anyone reccomend something better? I don't want to go with coilovers because I don't want to car to go any lower than 1 inch and because they are at least twice the price of the option I stated above. My other option as I've seen it would be to go with some KGB struts and say Tein or RSR springs. I've never set anything like this up before and maybe this isn't the right forum for this but any help is appreciated.

I'm certainly not the most knowledgeable person on the forums here about this, but....

My car did have similar problems, not nearly as severe. I don't know if it's any one thing that's causing it. I was having some performance issues because of a bad O2 sensor, though mostly high emissions. Additionally, the fuel injectors were far from good shape, so compression was all screwed up. One of them was actually leaking as well.

The only other thing I could recommend off the top of my head is a failing fuel pump or bad fuel filter. The filter is easy to replace and relatively cheap. If you don't know when it was done last, might want to do it anyway.

It definitely sounds like fuel is not getting to where it's supposed to.

Hi there;

I had the exact same problem last summer. Turned out to be a defective throttle control sensor. Had it replaced and the car runs fine now!
