I can't remember where I read this, but will plugging a 9v Battery into the Cigarette Lighter retain the Memory in the Radio etc., when disconnecting the Battery for cleaning?

Thanks...

IIRC, all the lighter sockets on the Q are only "hot" when the ignition switch is turned on. The rest of the time, they aren't connected to anything. So, they won't supply any current to the engine computer unless the ignition switch is turned on.

And, when you turn the ignition switch on, it draws enough current to drain a little 9 volt transistor battery in a matter of seconds!

BOTTOM LINE: I'm pretty sure it won't work on the Q.

The last time I had to disconnect my battery to replace it, I used a small 12 volt gell-cell battery (the kind that Home Depot sells for wireless gate openers and some home security systems), using a pair of alligator clips to connect it to the Q's battery cables. This supplies 12 volts to the engine computer, without having to turn on the ignition switch or any other high-drain accessories.

Does the 2000 radio have a code? I can't seem to find anything in the Owners Manual about protecting or recording the code while removing the battery. I thought there would be that feature but found no mention. I did not ask the seller about this and I should have I suppose.

It should be mentioned that if the above mentioned method is used that care should be taken to ensure that the hot or RED goes to the same on the car battery. Otherwise 24 volts will be introduced into the 12 volt electrical system. The fusible link should burn to protect the system but then that's another problem to scratch your head about.
